Today we want to share the benefits of using public transit.
Whether bus, train, ferry, or light rail, public transit offers benefits that driving or using a ride-hailing service cannot, such as saving money, improving health, and strengthening communities.
Save Money: Less driving means less gas consumption, fewer parking expenses, and lower insurance premiums. A transit fare is pennies on the dollar compared to a ride-hailing fare. Check to see if your employer provides a transit subsidy or at least the ability to purchase transit passes using pre-tax dollars so you can save even more money when taking transit to and from work!
Improve Health: Driving can be frustrating and exhausting. By contrast, public transit offers a relaxing ride because someone else is doing the driving. If you walk to and from transit stops, you’ll burn calories, strengthen your muscles, and improve your cardiovascular fitness.
Strengthen Communities: Using public transit reduces the need for building and maintaining roads, parking lots, and other infrastructure, which can damage the natural habitats and ecosystems. Furthermore, the more robust a transit system, the more people can connect to various opportunities, services, and amenities, such as jobs, education, health care, and entertainment.
