Maui County Young Life Young Life leaders enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them -- fun, friendship and significance.

In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about what matters most of all -- the truth about God and His love for them.

T H A N K F U L - Day 14

We are THANKFUL for the men & women that have volunteered and participated over the years in our annual golf tournament.

We could not do it without certain individuals stepping up to the plate each and every year.

You know who you are and we appreciate you.

Thank you for being part of us taking local kids off island to Young Life summer camp each year.

For those golfers that come out every single year - thank you for participating for the joy of the game. 😀 Maybe the prizes are a draw as well. 😏

We are thankful for our community.

T H A N K F U L - Day 13

We are continuing our season of gratitude with another guest today…

Tiffany Anderson and her family are dear friends. She has an infectious laugh that makes her eyes sparkle. She and her husband, Cory, now live in Southern Utah after spending many years on Maui.

Tiffany’s gratitude:

“I am thankful for meeting Jesus through Young Life; it’s a great sit-down-story of getting kicked out of camp for smoking grass.

I’m thankful for the laughter and adventure that’s a pillar of Young Life.

I’m thankful for long time friends that are chosen family.

I’m thankful for the camps, the prayers strangers have prayed over me that have changed my life and now my children’s. For volunteer leaders. For being on both ends of being served and serving, being a camper and a leader, laughing my b***y off at program, and then making people laugh doing my program myself (a dream come true. Some of us are wired that way).

I’m thankful to have tasted a corner of heaven on earth, God’s kingdom come, the aroma of Christ through Young Life.”

We are thankful for you and your heart Tiffany!

T H A N K F U L - Day 12

We are THANKFUL for the opportunity to invite ADULT GUESTS to Young Life Summer Camps with us! And we are thankful for the adults that have been brave enough to say ‘yes’ to the invitation.😀

Our friends Skip & Young joined us at a couple summer ago.

We invited Young to join us in our gratitude series.

Young’s gratitude:
“At Young Life camp, I witnessed the transforming power of God’s love. I watched teenagers encounter Jesus—hearts once restless now filled with peace, joy, and hope. Their laughter and newfound confidence were living testimonies of grace at work.

I am so deeply thankful for the Young Life leaders who serve with such faith and compassion—
pouring out their hearts so these young souls can come to know the One who gives life. Their quiet strength and steadfast love reflect the very heart of Christ. To God be the glory for every changed life, every tear of joy, and every spark of new faith.”

Mahalo Young!

T H A N K F U L - Day 11

As we continue to invite our Young Life Ohana into this season of gratitude with us, today’s guest takes us back again to Ventura… AND Maui!

We met Taylor when she was in high school. During her college years, she would ‘come home’ to see us on Maui. ❤️

Taylor has been hānai for a long time.

Hānai is a term in Hawaiian culture referring to the informal transfer or adoption of a child by another person or family. The word means to feed, nourish, sustain, foster.

The practice of hanai reflects the Hawaiian values of love, compassion, and collective responsibility toward nurturing the next generation.

Taylor’s gratitude:
“I am so very thankful that I met Jesus at Young Life camp when I was 16, and my life has never been the same. Every major decision—from college to marriage to where I’ve lived—was shaped by that moment and by the love and faithfulness of my Young Life leaders, Andy and Jes. Their investment in me changed the entire trajectory of my story and continues to ripple through my life today. I’m so thankful to now serve on Young Life committees as an adult and can’t wait for my own kids to experience the same life-changing love and community through Young Life soon.”

Taylor and her family now live in Florida.

Taylor broke into her storage boxes and found a jackpot of old photos! Woodleaf, spring break surf trips, womens’ retreat, visiting the Claydons. There are lots of stories! *we also confirmed that yes, in fact, Jes WAS preggo with Lara the first year Taylor went to Woodleaf!

T H A N K F U L - Day 10

As we continue to invite our Young Life Ohana into this season of gratitude with us, and as we dig to find photos - we are reminded of the gift of friendship that comes with walking out this mission of Young Life.

Our friend was a camper at the summer before we (Andy & Jes) moved to Ventura, CA to do Young Life.

In inviting Jesse to take part in our series of gratitude, his response was:
“I saw your post about Andy being on staff for 30 years, and I realized I’ve known you both for nearly all of that time. I am so thankful you moved to Ventura and invited me into your lives, it’s been a gift.”

We have vivid memories of Jesse being a volunteer leader with us in Ventura, CA so long ago.

We are thankful for the more recent visits & phone calls.

We are thankful to have Jesse and his wife Terah as dear friends and to have them on our team of support and prayer!

T H A N K F U L - Day 9

As we continue to invite our Young Life Ohana into this season of gratitude with us and we dig to find photos - we see how stories are interwoven.

We found Kona in a photo of a “HiTech night” for kids when he was in high school.

After high school, Kona became a volunteer leader with us in Young Life. He took middle school kids to camp one summer - and we came upon a photo of Brian & Kona on Carnival night at camp!

Brian camp to Young Life Club when he was in high school and now, a college graduate, Brian is a volunteer leader with us!

We are THANKFUL for God’s handiwork in our stories.

Kona’s gratitude:
“I’m thankful that the Lord will always finish the work that he started.”

Brian’s gratitude:
“Grateful for the leaders who paved the way, the ones who were intentional and gave up their time to walk with us. Now, I’m thankful for the chance to give back and pour into the next generation the same way others once did for me.”

T H A N K F U L - Day 8

As we invite our Young Life Ohana into this season of gratitude with us, this one brings with it some more golden nuggets of recent history in photos!

Our friends Janice & Mahea went to Young Life’s Lost Canyon in Arizona for summer camp in 2011.

Everyone has a story and we are thankful that Janice & Mahea’s stories brought them to Young Life and we are thankful they are still around!

Janice has been a leader, an adult helper, on committee and is now on Mission Staff with Young Life in Lahaina!

Mahea has been on committee and as her own children get older, we will expect to see her as a volunteer leader! 😏😉😜

We are THANKFUL for both of these women in our community!

Janice’s gratitude:
“I am blessed that I still get to do life with my first campers. 😘 cContinuing to do life with each other even after 14 years. Hallelujah.”

Mahea’s gratitude:
“Through every season, the highs and the lows, I’m reminded of God’s unwavering love. His grace and faithfulness remain constant.”

T H A N K F U L - Day 7

As we invite our Young Life Ohana into this season of gratitude with us, this one brings with it some golden nuggets of recent history in photos.

Zoe Chesson was in middle school when the Claydons arrived on island to lead Young Life.

Over the years went to Oakbridge for WyldLife Camp and Woodleaf for summer camp in high school. She served on Work Crew & Summer Staff over a couple summers at Woodleaf. She was a volunteer leader and took middle school girls to WyldLife Camp at Mokuleia on Oahu.

The Claydons were personally blessed to have Zoe and her family as direct neighbors for several years!😀

Zoe has lots of good stories to tell!

Zoe’s gratitude:

“I’m thankful for friendships that, no matter the distance or the years, I can still pick up the phone and find the same community, encouragement, and love.”

Mahalo for sharing Zoe!

T H A N K F U L - Day 6

We are THANKFUL for adults who are intentional in choosing to love middle school and high school kids.

Most of our adult leaders over the years have been volunteers.

They have chosen to spend time with kids as coaches, mentors, and friends.

They have taken time away from their own work and families to take local kids off island to Young Life summer camps.

Their hearts are simply to love Jesus first so that they can love others well, particularly middle school and high school kids.

We are so thankful for their willingness to step toward the journey for whatever season the Lord allows.

For our leaders that have moved on in different arenas and seasons of life - THANK YOU.
(You are welcome back anytime!)

For our leaders that are currently serving with us - THANK YOU.

For absolutely any adult choosing to work as a teacher, coach, mentor, any job that has you in front of kids - THANK YOU.

You are deeply appreciated.

❤️

T H A N K F U L - Day 5

As we invite our Young Life Ohana into this season of gratitude with us, we are popping over the Pacific Ocean to our dear friends in Ventura, CA - Jeff & Dana Potts.

The Claydons have known the Potts for a whopping 25 years. We are THANKFUL for their friendship & visits, encouragement, prayers & support over the years.

Dana’s gratitude:

“I am thankful for time with my husband, a true man of God who loves me amazingly!”

Mahalo for sharing Dana! ❤️
