The AWPGF is dedicated to the WPG. Through our foundation we fund our Breed Rescue, Health & Genetics initiatives, and educational scholarships.

The American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Foundation is a 501(c) (3) formed to promote the health and well-being of the purebred Wirehaired Pointing Griffon through funding, advancing and communicating Wirehaired Pointing Griffon health research.

One of the projects partially funded by the AWPGF is research on Lymphoma; one of the most common malignancies in dogs. The research (AKC CHF #03144) is being done at Colorado State University. They are searching for a novel and effective treatment option for dogs with lymphoma that could be more widely available than current standards of care. This has the potential to impact a very large percentage of dogs with lymphoma that currently may be only treated palliatively.

Please consider a tax deductible donation to the American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Foundation this year so that we may continue to provide grants to this and other worthy research projects that may affect our beloved Griffs.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon in the photo has lymphoma. In this picture she had lost 12 pounds early in the progress of the disease. She has undergone extended chemotherapy and has been in remission since October 2024. The second photo is the same dog after chemotherapy, having lost most of her hair.

Did you know that the American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Foundation gives grants for canine research?
In 2019 the AWPGF provided some funding to the AKC Canine Health Foundation study #02561 for research in idiopathic epilepsy in canines. This particular study is closed but there is still research being done in this area. Perhaps you have recently seen requests for information on unaffected dogs.

The AWPGF

The American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Foundation, formed at the direction of the AWPGA board of directors in 2017, is a 501(c)(3) organization whose purposes are focused solely on the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Indeed, it is the only 501(c)(3) organiztion in the country that is dedicated only to the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. The Foundation works to promote the Griffon’s health and well-being, maintain and disseminate information about genetic diseases seen in the Griffon, ensure the health and welfare of Griffons in rescue and rehoming situations, and provide education about our beloved breed. It works to preserve, protect, and advance the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.
