Our club recently made a $50.00 donation to Kinship in Breckenridge, MN. Kinship recruits and trains mentors to match with their waiting youth. Kinship provides monthly experiences and activities to youth and their mentors to participate in, helping them strengthen their relationships. For our older youth, they facilitate a Kinship4Teens group providing Independent Living Skills. Kinship's newest venture is their Lunch Buddies school-based program. Club member Karen Eichhorn (R) presented the donation to Rebekah Christensen (L), Director of Kinship. Karen is also a mentor for Kinship and takes part in the Lunch Buddies program **We Serve**🦁

Crystal Dueker, of the Gateway Lions Club in Fargo, ND, joined us at our noon meeting today to provide some updates on Lions activities in the area. She encouraged members to consider attending the state convention in May 2027 at the Dakota Magic Casino by Hankinson, ND. Crystal donated several books titled "Grandpa's White Cane" written by Jim Hoxie and Joanna Jones, to present to local elementary students. The book is about a fellow that loses his sight and attends a school for veterans who are visually impaired. The school helps him regain his confidence for independent living. Crystal has been a member of Lions for 31 years and we are grateful for her visit to share updates and her knowledge with us. **We Serve**🦁 (Pictured Sandy Eichhorn, Club President (L) and Crystal Dueker (R).

Theresa Vaagen, Sight Coordinator, for the Headwaters Lions Club, was busy today in town collecting eye glasses from various locations. Pictured below she is at Prairie Vision Center, in Wahpeton, ND. Theresa estimates she picked up approximately 400 or so pairs of glasses today. These will be taken to a Lion's glasses collection depository site in Fargo, ND. Thanks for all you do Theresa!!!🥸🤓😎🧐🤩

Chris DeVries (R), Community Development Director, spoke at our meeting today about a variety of topics. He discussed how residents can help keep our sanitary sewer system trouble free. This will prevent costly backups on your property, as well as an unpleasant odor in the community. "If it doesn't come off the roll, don't throw it in the bowl!!!" 🚽🚽🚽 He also updated members about a Craft & Vendor Fair happening in Wahpeton on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This will be happening on Laura Hughes Drive in Chahinkapa Park. Activities will include a pumpkin patch, carriage rides, live music, face painting, touch-a-truck, and more!!! Our guest speaker today was Mitch Calkins, Program Manager, for Lake Agassiz Development Group. He discussed the North Dakota Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) and it's goal to transform rural health across the state of ND. The five-year statewide strategy hopes to strengthen rural health care and make ND the healthiest state in the nation. This program has received nearly $199 million in the first funding wave and is supported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services with the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services taking the lead. RHTP will focus on strengthening and stabilizing rural health workforce, making ND healthy again, bringing high-quality health care closer to home, and connecting technology, data, and providers for a stronger ND. Our guest speakers today were Gabriel Stelton, a senior at Fairmount Public Schools, and Cary Wertz (R), his EMT Instructor. They joined us to discuss Gabriel's opportunity to attend the International HOSA Conference, which will be held June 17-21, 2026, at the Indianapolis Conference Center, in Indianapolis, IN. Gabriel is eligible to attend this conference as he qualified at state HOSA for the EMT competition. Sandy Eichhorn (L), Vice President, presented a check for $150.00 to Gabriel to put towards his cost of attendance. If you'd like to contribute, please contact Cary Wertz at [email protected]. Cary is an EMT/AEMT/PCT Health Science Instructor with the Southeast Region Career and Technology Center in Oakes, ND.

Pastor Amy Eisenmann was the guest speaker at our meeting yesterday. Amy is a pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, ND. She spoke to club members about Richland Wilkin Love INC. What is Love INC you ask? Love In the Name of Christ is a proven model that networks local churches, church volunteers, and community organizations together to help people in need. Today, Headwater's Lions Club members met with Scott Thiel, Ag Instructor and FFA Advisor, with the Southeast Region Career and Technology Center (SRCTC) in Wahpeton, ND. We met at one of the ag technology buildings where Scott provided information on the classes/course offerings available to youth in grades 7 - 12 at the center. Calista Ringler, Ag Instructor and FFA Advisor was introduced as well. Students learn about botany, horticulture, community development, food science, veterinary sciences, just to name a few subjects. Special thanks to Scott and Rhonda for a fabulous lunch.
