As Hurricane Erin approaches, your safety is our top priority. Please remember:

- Stay informed through local emergency management and public safety officials. Don’t rely on rumors or speculation.
- Mariners should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and remain in port when possible.
- Even if Erin stays offshore, dangerous rip currents and high surf are expected along Virginia’s coast.
- If caught in a rip current: remain calm, float, and swim parallel to shore—never directly against the current.
