Century Villages at Cabrillo - designed by The Architects Collective
Sunday, May 17 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Century Villages at Cabrillo is a powerful example of how design, when placed at the service of communities, can transform lives while creating meaningful and beautiful environments. Located on a former Naval housing base in Long Beach, the 27-acre campus is now home to more than 2,000 residents each night, including veterans, families, and individuals with special needs.
More than a housing development, CVC represents a holistic vision of community-centered design — one that integrates permanent and transitional housing with onsite services, support networks, shared spaces, and opportunities for stability and growth. Through a collaborative model bringing together multiple service providers under one mission, CVC demonstrates how architecture, planning, and social infrastructure can work together to break the cycle of homelessness.
Established in 1997, the project has become a nationally recognized model for collective impact and human-centered development. Its success is reflected not only in the quality of the environment itself, but in the lives changed through it: nearly every resident in permanent housing remains housed after one year.
Century Villages at Cabrillo reminds us that thoughtful design can do more than shape buildings — it can restore dignity, strengthen communities, and create pathways toward a better future.
