We had a wonderful morning at Bluebell Community Woodland. What did we do? Well.... we built a Bug Hotel using materials from the woodland, cleared a few of the small habitat piles in the central hazel copse and went on a flora and fauna ID. Amy found an old birds nest and if you look closely you can see plastic netting, it's so important to recycle as much as we can! Our next session is the 23rd May 10 am till 12 we'll be undertaking a 'woodland stocktake' using technology, books and knowledge to record all our flora and fauna and hoping that all our hard work has seen an increase in diversity! (PS we recorded over a dozen birds within the woodland this morning!)

The absolute perfect place to spend your Saturday morning is Bluebell Community Woodland and by sheer chance we have a volunteer session this Saturday (18th April) from 10am till 12. Alongside our regular tasks we will be building and furnishing the very finest 'Bug Hotel' ........ and did I mention the tea and cake?

All the scheduled work in the woodland is now complete and a big thank you to for a great job! You'll notice that in places dead wood on trees has been left to naturally decay and there are a few extra habitat stacks as we manage the woodland to increase its ecological benefit. Thank you for your patience during the works. Our next volunteer session is very soon, keep an eye out for details!

A few action shots from the first day of tree works in our lovely woodland. The focus of the project is safety for our many visitors removing dead wood that is over pathways. We have been very selective in identifying works and taken professional advice and where safe to do so trees are left to natural processes. We'll post as soon as works are complete.

Bluebell Woods is looking beautiful in this mornings sunshine BUT....... just to let you know for the next few days access will be restricted. The fantastic (and very helpful) are undertaking essential tree works to ensure that the woodland is safe for all our visitors. Apologies for any inconvenience but our next volunteer session is very soon!

There are signs of Spring emerging! Our lovely Sarah spotted wonderful Spring blooms recently in Bluebell Woods- daffodils, autumn crocus and lesser celandine ( that has one of the best common names ever 'cheese cups') It's a little early for our show of bluebells but if you've helped us plant bulbs in the past pop down you'll be suprised!!!!

We turned up, we bulbed (I think that may be a new word?) we may have got slightly wet...... but we had a fantastic morning at Bluebell Woods, so much achieved and 100's of bluebells planted. Thank you so much to those who came along and worked so hard- our next session is planned for the 29th November. Did I mention cake? We may have had cake!!!
