Actors’ Kopitiam: Contracts & Payments ☕

Thank you to everyone who came and to VICPA Singapore for joining us, as we shared an evening of knowledge and conversations with our community.

Some takeaways:
✨ No formal contract? WhatsApp and email can still protect you - just make sure the key engagement terms are there
✨ Read before you sign. You have the right to negotiate what doesn’t work for you.
✨ Know how your image and voice will be used. Territory, period, platforms. Read the talent release.
✨ If payment issues arise, act early
✨ Ask what the budget is before you name your rate
✨ Take care of yourself first. No job is worth your wellbeing.

What is intimacy in performance - and how can we create safer, more respectful spaces on set and in rehearsal rooms?

Last Saturday, we hosted a talk with Rayann Condy, Singapore’s first certified intimacy professional, who shared what the ideal process looks like from auditions to one-on-one conversations, rehearsals, and coordination behind the scenes, and how an intimacy professional supports actors, directors and producers in facilitating the process of creating intimate scenes.

There was a lot of insight packed into one hour (but definitely not enough!), and we hope to plan an extended workshop with Rayann soon.

Thank you to Rayann for sharing her time and expertise, the BA (Hons) Acting Programme at LASALLE College of the Arts for presenting this session with us, and to everyone who joined the conversation.

We’re excited to keep these conversations going - and to continue advocating for care as a cornerstone of creative work. 💛

Meet our speaker, Rayann Condy - Singapore’s first certified Intimacy Coordinator with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (USA).

Having worked across film, TV and theatre as a director, casting director, producer and educator, she is able to support the diverse pressures and complexities on set.

Rayann is passionate about helping actors feel safe, seen and supported when working on intimate scenes. Her mission is to pioneer intimacy and consent practices in Singapore & Southeast Asia, making care and consent part of every production.
