29 women applied. 22 are moving forward. 🦏🌿

That's the result of a recruitment drive across four villages in Zimbabwe this quarter, the next step in building a team of women wildlife protection scouts.

Candidates completed a written application, fitness assessment, and comprehension test. Now, the 22 who advanced will take on an intensive 2- to 3-week selection course led by Cobras and Cheetah scouts, with around 8 expected to move forward into several months of basic training.

Meanwhile, the current Cheetah women scouts are already at work in their communities, doing liaison work, gathering intelligence, reporting concerns, and delivering environmental education, the same frontline roles these new candidates are training to join.

This project is expanding women's roles in wildlife protection while strengthening community-led conservation across the region.

Hey adventurers! 🌍

Another incredible journey awaits in the 2026 ATCF Travel Conservation Auction! ✨

is returning to the auction this year and is donating a 5-night trip for two to explore the San Juan Islands, an archipelago in the U.S. state of Washington.

For Wilderness Travel, travel is about more than exploring incredible places. Their commitment to community-based, sustainable tourism helps balance profit and purpose by keeping travel dollars in the communities you visit and directing them to trip leaders from the region, locally owned hotels and restaurants, and grassroots organizations that protect surrounding cultures and ecosystems. 🌱

One Wilderness Travel guest, Steve L. from Stamford, CT, described his trip as “without a doubt one of the best trips I’ve taken in my entire life,” attributing this to the thoughtfulness of the crew and staff and calling it an “outstanding experience” for him and his kids. 💚

🌊With beautiful Pacific Northwest landscapes and unique wildlife, this island adventure offers the perfect opportunity to experience the region’s natural beauty while supporting conservation through travel.

🗓️ The auction opens September 27 (World Tourism Day).

Over 64% of Sabah’s reefs are at risk, impacting marine biodiversity and also the coastal communities who rely on them for food, income, and tourism, which are under severe threats.

Behind those numbers is a group of community members in Bira and Kota Kinabalu who spent quarter 2 becoming certified Ocean Gardeners, completing their Coral Restoration Certification and Level 1 Freediving along the way.

Next up: active restoration, site maintenance, and community talks as the team scales their impact across both locations.

Local people, trained and empowered to protect the reefs they depend on. That's community-driven conservation.
