In keeping with our strong philosophy of inclusiveness we offer mixed-ability programming, events, activities and arts education to people with disabilities. ou Move Me Tango program has served youth and adults, providing FREE, weekly Argentine tango classes, socials, and opportunities for the students to showcase their talents to the general public. Our You Move Me Tango program speaks to the overall mission of The Shimmy Club, Inc, sending a clear message founded upon a very simple premise; when we share a common interest, we naturally begin to know one another. As we come to know one another, we are more likely to celebrate our differences and not turn away. To date we have served over 200 participants (approximately 50% of which have had a documented disability), and provided approximately 450 sessions - 900 hours of class time - 14 student public performances... and we're still going! Together with your generous donations, volunteerism and support, this program is also funded in part by The Children's Trust, a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improves the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County. The Shimmy Club's comittment to the growth of the entire tango community is reflected in its support of the study of Argentine tango and its culture. To date, the organization has locally offered over 50 affordable master teaching workshops, lectures, events and performances. Our work has just begun...stay tuned for what's coming next!
