Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association The Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association (MHAA) is a group of amateur astronomy enthusiasts who love to share our hobby.
(1)

Our purpose is to educate the general public about Astronomy. The goal of the Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association is to spread enthusiasm for the wonderful world of astronomy. We do that through hosting a local lecture series, a monthly star party (weather permitting) at a dark site, and many special events throughout the year. Visit our page on Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/mhastro/) for a list

of upcoming events, many of which (but not all) are also listed here on Facebook. All events are free and open to the public. In 2011 we reached over 500 people with our stargazing events, many who were looking through a telescope for their very first time. The MHAA is made up of astronomy enthusiasts at many different levels. We've got casual stargazers, dedicated amateurs with small scopes, amateurs with scopes that rival small colleges, telescope builders, high end optics designers, astro-photographers, and even some professional astronomers in our ranks. We are always welcoming of new individuals to our midst.

RSVP on Meetup to join us April 21st at 8PM Eastern in person or on Zoom! Students from SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Dutchess will discuss two projects they've been independently working on. One project involved using data intended only for calibration of the mirrors on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to see if it is possible to identify active galaxy candidates. The other is an update on an ongoing project to try to use a Seestar S50 smart telescope to measure the magnitudes of variable stars and the potential nova of T Coronae Borealis.
A club business meeting will precede it at 7:15, which is also open to the public.
