We are excited to welcome Sunny Yang as our Principal Cello starting this fall season! Originally from South Korea, Sunny earned her Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School, completed a postgraduate diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music, and a Master of Music from USC. She was a member of the Kronos Quartet from 2013-2023.

Sunny~

✦ “One of my favorite places in San Francisco is McLaren Park. I discovered it by chance during the pandemic, when I would take long walks while carrying my newborn baby. It’s great for birdwatching, and is home to red-masked parakeets, great blue herons, red-tailed hawks, and very clever ravens.”

✦ she likes astronomy and science fiction, especially Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and Star Trek.

✦ she has two cats, and is convinced that one of them, a tortoiseshell named Jasmine, is actually a dog in disguise.  Jasmine plays fetch with her mouse toy, has an obsession with socks, and her meow suspiciously sounds like a howl.
