Coconut Grove Dog Rescue Coconut Grove Dog Rescue is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit animal welfare and rescue organization located in Coconut Grove, Florida. 1. We are not a shelter. b. c.

We do not pull animals from Miami-Dade County Animal Services (we do not have the financial or human capital to do so) so please do not contact us if you need assistance with same.

2. We are a loose-knit group of neighbors and supporters who foster all dogs in their own homes who are found abandoned in the Coconut Grove, Florida area. Our focus is to keep animals from going to the animal shelter

if possible.

3. We are a “dog only” organization so please do not call us about your hamster, cat, snake, etc. Because of our small size, we must stay focused to be successful with our limited resources.

4. We do take donations of money, time, dog supplies, dog food. Please contact us using the information on our contact page.

5. At this time, we don’t have 24-hour telephone coverage. So, we suggest that if you find a dog in Coconut Grove, please follow the guidelines below until you can get in touch with one of our staff members for assistance:

6. If you are thinking about taking your dog to the shelter here in Miami-Dade County for whatever reason (moving, can’t take care of it, etc.) – we must caution you to THINK AGAIN! Currently the Miami-Dade County animal services is not operating at optimal efficiency. Further, the shelter is receiving way too many dogs everyday so basically it is more likely than not that your animal will be put down if you simply leave it there. The shelter is not a fun or comfortable experience with any animal. If you need counseling or other assistance, please give us a call before you go to the shelter as that is the worst possible thing you can do to an animal. We also have links on this page to rescue organizations and support services (all non-profit) to help you. With a little bit of time and effort – you will most likely get the help you need without hurting the animal itself. Don’t bring bad dog karma into your life!

7. If you are stuck in the dog park or find a dog in the Coconut Grove, Florida neighborhood, please do the following:

a. If the dog looks uninjured, please find a place to keep it safe. It is suggested to keep it away from other dogs because it could have silent sickness. It is also suggested to inspect the dog for fleas, ticks, cuts, bruises, general touching to assess pain centers. Then give us a call and we will see what we can do but if you picked it up – you are required to help us as much as possible. If the dog is injured, please do what you can to assess if the dog is saveable. Ask people. Pay attention. Animal services does not just dole out vet care and CARE. No they do not at this point. They are a triage center like war for dogs (think of Haiti Earthquake, etc.). Call everyone you know – we guarantee if you are in Coconut Grove, someone knows us. Stabilize the situation as best you can until we can come help you and decide what to do. Remember – the dog might be lost and we do have a duty to figure that out if humanly possible with our limited resources.

8. Did you lose your dog? Send us pictures and a description right away. We can help you with flyers and neighbor support to post same. Our reach is pretty decent for the area.

9. We have many events and fundraisers all year long. Check back here for listings and follow us on our page (search for “Grove Rescue” and become one of our many friends). Thank you for visiting. And, remember – animals are abandoned every single day and this problem is out of control. Take the time to help just one. It really makes a difference.
