🙏 Thank you to Ian Byrne MP for tabling an early day motion at Westminster this week to recognise the important role of social workers across the UK and urge his colleagues to back our calls to improve working conditions in the profession.

While encouraging to see MPs already adding their support, we need to keep applying pressure on the powers that be if we are to affect the change that social workers desperately need to see.

Has your MP signed the motion yet? Contact them to find out!

A huge congratulations to our wonderful Senior Supervising Social Worker Leigh! ✨

She has been recognised by The British Association of Social Workers as one of their Amazing Social Workers 2026 and we couldn’t agree with them more!

Our foster carer Becky shared some thoughts about her relationship with Leigh:

“Leigh has been a breath of fresh air as our Supervising Social Worker. She appears to be very attune to our needs, household demands, medical pressures of constant appointments and specialists that need to be prioritised for each child, and will jump on anything I mention that may need to be explored for a particular child or need.

She can read me like a book. She knows that the children in my care are my world and I always want the best for them, but I will often put their needs before my own (as I believe all parents do/should do). Leigh recognises if I’m emotionally drained, and when I’m terrified from the impact of watching my little girl go under another anaesthetic for surgery or battle with myself that I can’t ‘fix’ something for one of my girls to make their lives richer.

Leigh can give me advice and guidance, and I truly respect it as I know she really understands our family dynamic and how much we love our ‘littles’, and only wants the best for us as a whole.”

Leigh is a truly inspirational person who cares, and understands the foster families she works with.
Thank you Leigh. 💜

And that’s a wrap on final day of Plaid Cymru Spring Conference. Really great conversations with delegates as well as sitting and prospective MS regarding the importance of focusing on social justice and the crucial role social work has. Good to see the recognition of the impact of poverty on individuals, families and communities across speakers’ contributions, which is a key part of BASW’s manifesto!
