Meet Shawna (L) and Jancis (R)
Shawna joined the chorus back in the Fall of 2021, after a few members had encouraged her to do so including her mother, Trudy, who had also been a member some years ago. Shawna had been previously a member of the Maple Ridge Singers for quite a few years and was looking for a new challenge. Singing in general has been her life’s passion since the age of 10. She has sang in church choirs, high school choirs, community theatre, vocal jazz ensembles, at funerals/weddings, in “The Right Hand Band,” and the Womens’ Choir at Trinity Western University in Langley. As her brother Mike puts it, “She has always been a hard one to keep quiet.”
The joy found in singing is personal therapy for her and an enriching part of her life apart from work and family. She joined the board as a Member at large in 2024. Then, after becoming Concert Chair in 2025, she has been able to tap into other creative aspects of her personality to share with the group. There is a sense of fellowship and camaraderie in choir that always leads to new friendships and a rediscovery of one’s self – that is hard to find elsewhere.
She encourages anyone who has been thinking of joining a choir to come on out to a concert or check out a choir practice. Don't waste your talent singing to the radio in the car...You will be so glad you did!

Jancis
I have always loved to sing, and had fun with my high school friends performing for special functions over the last few years. I heard about the Maple Ridge Choral Society from a friend from my ukulele group.
I joined the choir 7 years ago on my birthday, a present to me from myself. I was so surprised that the choir sang “happy birthday” to me, it sounded so wonderful!
I have so enjoyed the practices and concerts over the years, and of course the opportunity to sing in Carnegie Hall with an orchestra was more than I had ever dreamed of!
I am now a member at large with the choir board and my pleasure is to announce the birthdays of any member whose birthday occurs during that week, and to have the choir sing them a fabulous “happy birthday."
Thank you to both for the joy you bring every week!
