John Sappington Chapter Daughters Of The American Revolution

John Sappington Chapter Daughters Of The American Revolution Welcome to the PUBLIC site for the John Sappington Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Our OBJECTIVE is to support historic preservation, patriotism, and education. The Chapter is named after Patriot John Sappington, born 1750 in Maryland. During the Revolutionary War, he served as Sergeant in the 13th Virginia Regiment, 1776-1778. He fought under the command of General Washington at Valley Forge. He later settled in Fort Boonesborough, Madison County, Kentucky where he became a goo

d friend and neighbor of Daniel Boone. John and his family followed Daniel Boone to Missouri and in 1803 purchased a Spanish land grand along River au Gravois in the Territory of Louisiana (now Saint Louis County, Missouri). John and his wife, Jemima Fowler Sappington, raised seventeen children. When he died in 1815, he was buried beside his wife in Sappington Cemetery Crestwood, Missouri. Several family homes still stand in the vicinity. The John Sappington Chapter was organized in February, 1966.

Yesterday, the John Sappington Chapter, NSDAR co-sponsored an America 250 event with the Sunset Hills and Crestwood Communities, along with an early Flag Day celebration. The day featured a short flag parade through their neighborhoods, followed by heartfelt words from the mayors of both areas and the Parade Marshals, Charlie Hoesel and our own Margaret Carr. Despite the damp weather, the day was filled with laughter, fun, and a vibrant patriotic spirit.

FLAG DAY
June 14 2026

Today honors the adoption of our first flag, which featured 13 stripes and stars as stated in the 1777 Flag Resolution.
June 14, 1892. The only resolution adopted by the first NSDAR Continental Congress was to honor and respect the Flag of the United States of America.

Did you know that since the 20th century, our Society has presented a Flag of the United States to the Senate and the House of Representatives when needed for use at the rostrums of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House?

The NBOM has requested that flags be displayed at homes on Flag Day since 1893. Check your Flag Code for proper etiquette.

Flag Pin Protocol:
• The lapel Flag Pin is always worn on the left
