students recently visited the Guild for a wonderful day of Useful Parallels!⠀

The students tried their hand at stone carving, repairing and upcycling textiles, puppetry and more! Building new skills, making connections and experimenting with different practices.

Many thanks to the attendees and to our members for their time and expertise.⠀

Mary Schoeser is an internationally respected textile and wallpaper historian who has published and curated widely. She has collaborated with many museums over her 40+ year career, including the and – where she is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow. As an historic textiles advisor she has worked with English Heritage and the National Trust.

Mary recently visited the Guild to talk to our members about Swiss-born Marianne Straub (1909-1994) who was one of Britain’s most influential designers. The talk was a fascinating insight into the creative output of a handweaver committed to well-made mass-produced textiles from c.1933-1992, and an inspirational postwar teacher.

Thank you Mary!
