recently visited the Guild to talk to us about the amazing work of where he is Studio Lead, Tutor of Tapestry, and Lead of the Tapestry Foundation Diploma programme. West Dean has been working with artists and designers to create bespoke tapestries since 1976. Philip showed us the breadth of their work throughout the years, and explained the process of translating ideas and images into tapestry.

Philip studied tapestry weaving at Middlesex Polytechnic and The Royal College of Art before joining West Dean in 1993. He has worked with numerous artists to translate their work into woven tapestry including John Hubbard, Tracey Emin, Michael Armitage and Eva Rothschild. He has his own studio practice and is a studio holder at Artspace Portsmouth, he is also a member Soft Geometry; a group of four artists working with textiles and textile processes.

Thank you Philip!

Last week we were joined at the Guild by students from School 360, who have been taking part in our Outreach Schools Project.

The children participated in a day of creative workshops and saw their own work displayed on the walls of the Master's Room as part of the Schools Exhibition.

Thank you to the schools involved, and to our members for lending their time and skills!

and recently joined us to give a talk to fellow Guild members about the many projects they have collaborated on, including Jane's wonderful gothic folly!

We also learned about Jane and Simon's separate artistic practices and the ways in which they bring the lessons they learn from each other into their personal work.

Thank you both for a wonderful talk!

students recently visited the Guild for a wonderful day of Useful Parallels!⠀

The students tried their hand at stone carving, repairing and upcycling textiles, puppetry and more! Building new skills, making connections and experimenting with different practices.

Many thanks to the attendees and to our members for their time and expertise.⠀
