August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, a time to highlight the importance of protecting children’s vision and ensuring they receive the care and services they need.

For children who are blind or have low vision, early detection can make a significant difference. Two bipartisan House bills, the Early Detection of Vision Impairments for Children (EDVI) Act and the See the Board Act would provide funding and technical assistance for states and communities to ensure that children who need eye care, treatment, and services can receive it.

Early identification can help children access the medical care and educational services they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Get ready—member registration for the 2026 ACB Conference and Convention opens TOMORROW, Thursday, May 28, at 7:00 a.m. CT (8:00 a.m. ET). Registration will open for everyone on June 4. Registration will close on July 6, at 11:59 p.m. CT.

This year’s virtual portion will run July 13-21 and the in-person portion will run July 24-31 at the St. Louis Hyatt Regency Arch Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. The Candidates Forum will take place on July 8 and the live Summer Auction will be held on July 11.

The discounted registration fee for ACB members is $55, and $70 for non-members. If you are not a member, you can join ACB as a member-at-large for $10, enabling you to save $5 and to register on May 28. Members are also given priority for tour registration. This should be done as soon as possible by calling 612-332-3242.

Today is Celebrate Your Elected Officials Day, and ACB is recognizing lawmakers who are helping advance accessibility and inclusion for people who are blind or have low vision.

Recently, the bipartisan Communications, Video, and Technology Accessibility (CVTA) Act was reintroduced in Congress. This important legislation would strengthen accessibility requirements for communications and video technologies, including streaming services, video conferencing platforms, emergency services, and emerging technologies like AI and virtual reality.
