165'x64' of new bigger space for Alfie. Alfie is one of two big pigs we have at our rescue. Patience is the other one and we're actually planning to move her in with Alfie down the road. For now Alfie hangs out with Ophelia. Lot of times I call her Olivia. We knew it was time that this big boy get an upgrade. He is loving his new pen and immediately came to me for belly rubs!

Make it Make sense

For a month and half we have been harassed. ALL cases against us have been completely dropped. Animal Control didn’t take it lightly. They sent 3 separate officers, 3 different times and the chief even came out. We told them about the improvements we were making that Chris Coleman knew about that will help with pool clean up and auto-water bowls. This will help us keep up the maintenance easier. While we never claimed to be perfect, we have over 35 pigs, not discussing other animals, and yet we are being persecuted over two pigs. The cases were dropped before Eastern snout post. They only posted because they didn’t get what they wanted. Then when that died down here comes Kimberly Jo.

What is the benefit? There are only two reasons people run rescues, helping animals or getting donations. Some don’t really care about the animals and just rake in the donations. Others start with a good heart but sometimes don’t really know how to make it work logistically. Abusers tend to only care about money. Well, we don’t ask for donations hardly ever. We participated in the hay drive, because Kim Sullivan voiced that we should and last year we had a neuter/spay auction for three pigs. We set up our rescue to be able to be sustained by our own income (no we both don’t make 6 figures; I make $120 and work 100 hours a pay period). That is how we have stayed strong for 7 years.

Why do we put up with all this? We have asked ourselves that several times. We pay out a significant amount of money every year to keep this rescue. $16,000 in just basic costs: food, vet check, trims. That doesn’t include maintenance and renovation, which this year we have already spent $2,700 in three months on fencing and decking. That amount also doesn’t include the handyman, Chris brought up, who costs us just under $25k a year. Yes, he occasionally does other work for us, but primarily he is making improvements and upkeep at the rescue. I know you are thinking it must be nice to be able to afford that. Yes, I work a very high demand stressful job so that we can get the support. We have never received volunteer support. We are on the parole officer list and brought on Julie as VP to specifically help us with finding volunteers. While Julie raised several concerns about frequency of water changes, she didn’t come up herself to help even though she was the VP. Instead, Colton and I both work hard all week to just turn around and use all our free time to run this rescue.

Why not just walk away and let them take all the pigs? We would have a way easier life and be in a great financial situation. Henrietta loves it when I come out and follows me wherever I go. She gives me so many hot pants but tends to stay away from strangers. Alfie is a big boy and just got his yard updated. He now has 100’ by 40’ space he calls his own with his other friend. Corky and Petunia only ever knew their mom and only adjusted to Colton. They would be terrified by change. I could keep going on. We love them enough to give a damn about what happens to them. The people that rehome have, majority of the time, NEVER been to the rescue themselves. A lot can be hidden from camera, even live chat, and can be staged for videos, photos, or visits. A few times when I was included in a pig coordinated move, I would push back to make sure due diligence had been done. As a rescue, we hear a lot more than others do because we know the struggles of being a rescue. I have never, and will never, call out a rescue for doing things different than I would, even if I don’t agree. However, I would if I knew for a FACT things were happening. Not just so and so said so. With that said, there are very few I would trust with my pigs. Haven’t y’all noticed the up and down rate of pig rescues. There is a reason for that. I will not take a chance of one of our pigs ending up in a bad situation. You know why our rescue wasn’t perfect? We didn’t work to get everything perfect before our FRIENDS came for a visit. We let them see the daily struggle. For instance we moved our whole house into a shipping crate, while we built. That allowed us to start the rescue while living in a RV several years earlier. We recently were finally able to clean out the shipping crate and reclaim our stuff. To our horror, there was a leak and our stuff was molded. My asthma is triggered by mold. We moved what we could salvage under our carport till we could hand wash the items. We did this a weekend before our FRIENDS arrived. We told them this but who cares the video makes good drama.

But Tasha, we just want medical records and video proof of Charlie. I post a picture and get accused of altering it because people are too stupid to realize that it was not military time but Universal Time. Android phones are including that in photos. Why should I provide other items to be declared a liar. Additionally, what have we ever asked for from a majority of you. If you have donated/bought from our auctions, then you have some right to ask questions. Majority of you have never lifted a finger to help, have just demanded we take on more pigs, have taken our support and friendship without reciprocating. For the ones who sent us pigs, like Nita, you have not for YEARS asked about how they were doing, requested pictures, or followed up. The number of lies is astronomical. When Julie first brought this to our attention that this could be big (double agent), I told her I wasn’t worried. She went on about how we had to fight back to defend our name and all the good we did. Ain’t it hilarious now. I wish I had that recorded. I knew locals would see that we are doing good. Instead of jumping at a few people’s comments that know NOTHING about the daily struggles and choices of running a rescue. To everyone that called animal control, thank you. We now have a great working relationship with our animal control due to you all making them come out so often. I am still not worried. We have done nothing wrong. Our vet is in good standing. We rarely ask for support, so the lack of support from Facebook Haters won’t affect us. We are a Phoenix.

This will be our last post about this. If you really care about Charlie or Pua or any pig at Hogwarts, continue following our page. We will work to post more frequently. To the rest of you, you didn’t help us in the past or present, so why would I expect anything different in the future.

PS For those who read the entire post, how many comments were made from people who obviously didn’t

Charlie

There seems to be still some confusion on why we “released” Charlie to Julie and took him back. Let me be clear, we never released Charlie.

Before the Eastern post, animal control had stopped by due to an abused animal call. After Julie, our then VP, called me and asked about maybe her taking Charlie for a short time to give him some one-on-one time as she was retired and she is the queen of fattening them up. We were already aware of his cancer prognosis. While he was thin, he showed no signs of pain or other issues. Of course, I love Julie and know how wonderful a pig mom she is. I agreed immediately. It was a no brainer for our vice president to get him for a short period. Charlie would get spoiled, and Julie would get piece of mind that she tried. I reminded her about his prognosis, because I was worried she would be heartbroken. When her and Keith picked him up, Feb 4, they again expressed it would be a short time. I was told he was going to stay in his own piggie room that she had prepared for pigs.

Julie kept updating me with pictures and questions during this time. She included pictures of him in her living room claiming she was the “master of the fat farm.” I reminded her that getting Charlie to have a belly is not the issue. Getting him to intake the nutrition and put on weight is. On Feb 10, animal control came out again and asked about Charlie. I said he was with our VP. They mentioned that they need to be able to see him, so I said I would bring him back.

That week we visited Keith and Julie and talked about the most recent visit from animal control. We also got to see Charlie. We were surprised to say the least. The “Pig Room” was a tiny room jam packed with furniture and a bed. There was about 10x4 space for Charlie and part of that was taken up with a large plastic pool to potty in. Keith, then informed me, they were planning to move him to a pen out back. Their typical pens are around maybe 16’x16’. We did not take pictures. They were our friends. Why would we need to take pictures. We were concerned and talked about it on the way home. Since Charlie has been with us, he has always lived with AC/Heat and been indoor outdoor. Currently, he shares an indoor space with 4 other pigs that is 12’x12’ with access to a yard that is 40’x32’. He also has an auto-water bowl and is fed alone two cups twice a day. We felt this was a major downgrade verses instead of a piggie vacation.

On Feb 14 my dad and Colton went down to get Charlie. Julie and Keith were out but their neighbor started attacking them verbally. Cops had to be called. The cops recommended letting them know when they planned to come down again to get Charlie. That is the reason cops were there.

Julie was misinformed when she was told it would be a civil case as she claimed we released Charlie to her. However, as our VP, on record, she is allowed to hold Hogwarts residents, and they stay within Hogwarts control. That is why the police informed her she had to release Charlie.

Silence doesn't help healing

This is Tasha. Up until now, Colton has been the voice for both of us, but I realize that staying silent has only added to the pain of this situation. I need to speak for myself and own my part in what happened.

I am haunted by the reality of what happened to Fancy. When Chris Coleman first pointed out the lice, I was confused—I couldn't even see them at first. It was only when we got close that I realized he was covered. I was horrified. I immediately tried to treat the pigs, but looking back, my heart breaks because I let it get to that point.

I told myself Fancy was thin because of sand intake. I clung to that theory because I didn't want to believe he was failing. I even yelled at Colton, refusing to believe him when he said we were told that he had a fatal condition. I didn't want to accept that we had failed him. It wasn't until the vet confirmed that Fancy didn't die from sand—but likely from his digestive system—that I realized how wrong I had been. Whether he was eating until the end or not, I should have called the vet sooner. I regret every single day that I didn't give him the mercy of being put down earlier. Fancy will forever be the reminder that 'doing our best' isn't enough when an animal’s life is in our hands. The night I found out Fancy died. I bawled my eyes out in Chris’ arms.

Chris, I am so sorry for blowing up and yelling at you. You were the only one who brought your concerns directly to me about Pua and the others being thin. Instead of listening with an open heart, I let my emotions rise and pushed you toward my husband because I couldn't handle the truth of the situation. I know I 'get like that,' but that is no excuse for the way I treated a friend.
I wish more than anything that Fancy were still here. I wish I had asked more questions and jumped to fewer conclusions. Most of all, I wish I had been a better steward and a better friend.

We are forever changed by this, and I am committed to making sure this never happens again. He will be always with us to remind us to do better even if we feel we are doing great.

A lot of accusations have been made that aren't true. A lot of pictures have been taken and some from several years ago. I wish everyone had been more open about their concerns and had worked with us. Unfortunately their solution was to take the pigs away, but that doesn't help the ones still here. Fixing the problems with the five they were concerned for would make adjustments for everyone.

Proof is in Actions

We were open and honest with Animal Control. Reports are public records and can be requested by anyone. Their pictures show the place did not change from the initial visit and animal control showing up.
We invited Pig Patrol to come and do an honest assessment. We also invited Labor of Love Weekend to come out. We have been open and transparent with all investigations. We have never stopped someone from visiting our rescue.

Fact from Fiction

What is offering help to a rescue:
Do you need help with vet costs for Pua or Charlie? Is there some way we can help the rescue? Would having less pigs help? What are you currently doing right now for Pua and Charlie; maybe we can think of some more things that would help them?

The only help that was offered was “give up your pigs”; specifically the five mentioned above. That is not help. We have had a good standing in the community and Florida for a very long time. We have had disagreements, but that did not change. We are a stable rescue, but we lack manpower support. We even started hiring a handy man to help us at the rescue 3 days a week to get some support.

Here are the facts that can be verified by anyone:
*When Eastern Snout posted we were already cleared of all charges TWICE
*Unnecessary deaths - We have only had 6 deaths over 7 years with our max pig count at 38 (vet has met all our pigs and can verify)
*As demonstrated by Pig Patrol, while some areas got a little messy by the pigs, their space is cared for. We are building a house, running a rescue, and both working full time. Our property is a hot mess but not where the animals are.
*Photos can be miss leading, for example a red pool with p**p in it, but not showing the clean pool right next to it. That pig liked having a potty pool
*Charlie was not scared at all when retrieved. Cop body cam footage shows what really happened that day before Julie started filming.
*We use the same vet as Julie. She did not take Charlie to our vet. Our vet has been seeing Charlie for a while. No records were provided proving Charlie went to another vet, but they didn’t have the past history to do a real exam.

It is fascinating that all the allegations primarily came from one person. That the “investigation” was brought by two women who have never run a rescue and have only been to rescues with ample prep time to get everything perfect. We never claimed to be perfect, but expected after 7 years of pig rescue, we at minimum deserved the respect of having questions asked and both sides heard.

Who needs enemies……..
Now moving forward to Julie and Hogwarts Orphanage. Julie was our Vice President for two years. During her tenure, she was assigned to try to get volunteers to help the rescue and maintained a presence by joining us for events at markets. Later on, she found she enjoyed transport more and we gladly let her use our horse trailer for those transports. As VP, Julie was allowed to come to the rescue any time to volunteer, she could host fundraisers, and make changes. She never took the initiative to do any of these things.
There was one occasion Julie brought up a water issue with our rescue. We again explained we need more mainpower and are open to suggestions or ideas. When she just kept bringing up the issue, we said she was welcome to come and help with the pools and water bowls. She never brought the issue up again. However, we did listen to her advice and already have the items in order to make a more efficient auto-watering system alongside decks so the pigs always have a good stable ground when eating.
During this whole ordeal we thought we were on good terms with Julie which was evident by messages sent by Julie. After we had gone through the multiple animal control visits, Julie offered to take Charlie to see if she could fatten him up a bit with the understanding he would be returned at a later date. There was no form of release paperwork, because Julie was still the VP of Hogwarts. During this time we had no idea of Julie’s involvement in reaching out to anyone. Other than the previous water issue Julie brought up to us years ago, no other complaints were ever brought to us about the rescue. She had just that week asked for pig advice and told Tasha she was “thankful that you are in my sphere. On Tuesday before picking up Charlie, Julie and Keith reiterated that Charlie was there just for a short time.
We were shocked when it came out that Julie had made these complaints. Most of the pictures are old photos from over 5 years of friendship. Julie had every opportunity as the VP to make every change she thought doable as long as she was willing to do the effort involved.

AMPA to the rescue…….

This was the first time Chris and Amy had been to our rescue, and did not know their story. I then called Kimberly (AMPA) to explain the situation about the animals, our vet’s recommendations, and situations. To our surprise, again, we ended up receiving a letter from American Mini Pig Rescue asking for 5 pigs to be placed with a 5 day offer: 1 pig was boarded and not ours, 2 were completely healthy with one being old, and two with known ailments but being actively treated and monitored by our vet. Respectively, Havey, Pumba, Charlie, Old Boy, and Pua. There was also a conversation with Chris about placing Pua and covering the vet bill after having the animals checked out, but these events happened within 24 hours. The letter received contained, “This request for release is a plea and offer of help that will avoid any potential future actions against Hogwart’s Orphanage and you as directors.” Take it how you will, we saw this was clearly a threat. Once we were aware of what was going on, our vet was contacted to check out all our animals. She cleared her schedule that same week to make it happen and gave us a clean bill of health on January 27th. Animal control also came out and verified everything with us on the 30th. Moving forward to February 10th, we had animal control show up again with a sheriff from a complaint from PETA. Once again, animal control walked around, checked all animals, verified with the vet, and gave the all clear. Finally, they came out a third time due the Eastern Snout Post response. Each time was a different officer to prove and a different set of pictures.

The Secret Mission We Didn’t Know about

Hello everyone. Recently we have been seeing many posts and comments about our rescue from some people who visited while we were under some pretty major renovations. In addition, we had a terminal pig with limited time due to his spinal conditions. Fancy Pants was eating 4 cups of pig and sow a day and had no other signs of pain or discomfort. At the time Fancy started going downhill, Tasha had taken on a new job and was trying to get everything under control with her new position. To help her out, I took on almost all of the rescue work. This is not an excuse, just an explanation why we dropped the ball. We should have called out our vet to evaluate Fancy to see if it was time for him to go. We never have a pig cross the rainbow without the vet saying it was time. We should have made that call sooner, but thought he had more time. Moving forward, we have decided to not have the entire rescue on one person. It will always have to be a team effort.
At the time, Chris Coleman and Amy Reed came to go swim with manatees with us. They briefly stopped at our rescue before leaving out. When the pig lice was spotted we immediately put a hold on our trip and handled the situation. Chris and Tasha evaluated all the pigs for pig lice. Two other pigs had eggs but no lice. Tasha then treated all three. Fancy’s bedding was burned and replaced. There has been no signs of pig lice since or ever before.
What we didnt know at the time was, Amy and Chris were filming our rescue for other purposes.

Urgent🔥🔥🔥
Pensacola Florida
2 spayed females Cora and Penelope animal control treating to take. Not a good animal control.

Whole story:
Human mom and dad were planning to buy a farm for their growing fur baby and human family. They didn't realize they couldn't have the pigs in Pensacola, but it wouldn't have been a big deal if the farm had happened. Unfortunately Dad unexpectedly passed away.

Mom is holding down the fort and is pregnant but suddenly animal control showed up at her door. We got some time by letting them know we're helping to bring home the pigs, but it's only a little bit of time. This animal control does not give pigs a happy ending, so this is really urgent. We are maxed out so help finding placement and funds for transport would be greatly appreciated
