Welcome to the Central New York Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. Formed in 1989 by conservationists, anglers, hunters, and nature lovers, the Central New York Chapter has worked to conserve, maintain, protect, and restore central New York's soil, air, woodlands, waters, and wildlife. This young man won a "most creative" award for his project on beavers that he presented at the
Minoa Elementary School Science Fair. His grandparents and his dad are all members of our chapter. We see a Young Naturalist in the making. Nice work.

In central New York, don't be tempted to clean up your yard until we have consistent temperatures above 50 degrees for at least a full week. This could be anywhere from late March until early May. The goal is to allow beneficial insects and pollinators to emerge from overwintering in leaves and stems. (acknowledgment to maker of image)

Micron will change our natural environment. Help us keep them accountable. Please join an in person Community Town Hall Event this Saturday March 7th at 3pm- 5pm at the Southwest Community Center in Syracuse. This will be an interactive and educational event with poster style learning sessions, group discussion, and a Q& A with community members. Food will be provided.

Our chapter members are involved in the community in many ways besides just through our Izaak Walton chapter. President Mat Webber and Board Director Cheryl Matt were seen recently attending a League of Women Voters workshop on advocacy in Cazenovia. Attendees came from as far away as Utica, Cortland, St.Lawrence County and Albany.

‘Water Cools the Planet’ Regenerating Life is an inspiring film at the Catherine Cummings Theatre in Cazenovia. This is a beautiful, very positive and inspiring film that deals with the difficult reality of what is happening to our environment. It includes stunning videography of the earth, while illustrating rich insights into the scientific data behind how extreme weather can be reversed.
Join us and watch it on March 5th, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Catherine Cummings Theatre in Cazenovia. All are welcome to attend and no tickets or reservations are needed.
