Tūmanako is Hope. Maori words can have many meanings or broader concepts held within them. The meaning of the Maori word, Tūmanako, is Hope. Hope for something different, something new and something better. Hope is a fundamental requirement for change. All dreams, actions and innovation start with hope, the belief that things be better than what has come before. Achieving wellness and building excellence of service provision requires a strong platform of hope to exist.
The Tūmanako Wellness Centre is a disruptive innovation designed to create a step change in mental health services in New Zealand. We want to provide an alternative. Tūmanako will provide care for people requiring support to improve their mental health and wellbeing by providing people with wrap around support on their way to wellness. Care will be delivered in a green, holistic, sustainable and healing environment. Tūmanako will be a centre of excellence in alternative mental health service provision unlike anything else seen in New Zealand. Tūmanako will also be a centre for research and knowledge creation.
GREEN - It will be a modern, architecturally designed, calm, green, nature filled sanctuary. Designed as a place of healing where the environment assists in making people feel valued. Each pavilion will have a green, planted atrium. We believe proximity to nature is beneficial to wellbeing and has a calming and centering effect.
SUSTAINABLE - The building will be designed using sustainability principles using solar power, passive heating and ecologically sound materials. It will have Living Building Certification - the gold standard that this will be a high performing building that will focus on both the built works and the wellness of its occupants.
TECH PROGRESSIVE - the center will incorporate cutting edge technology.
The Tūmanako Wellness Centre will also be dedicated to:
KNOWLEDGE CREATION - By being a Centre For Excellence in Wellbeing we will partner with the top intellectuals, academics and research institutions, both public and private. Our aim is to have an inspirational workforce that attracts the best minds, clinicians and practitioners, inspires the next generation coming through to provide the best care available to the people we support. It will be a place where staff from all over New Zealand and the world will seek to work at.
HOLISITIC HEALTH - We believe that what we eat is fundamental to our health. It is vitally important for people to have nutrition that supports their path to wellness. Foods available at the centre will be predominantly organic and whole foods. We believe that when people are unwell or navigating difficulties, it is easy to not attend to your body’s requirements for nourishing food that provides you with the appropriate vitamins, minerals and requirements to head towards wellness. Tūmanako Centre will have a nutritionist who oversees customised meal plans for each person.
Inclusivity - all who come into contact with Tūmanako are to feel valued
Holism - Tūmanako will focus on the emotional, mental and physical wellness
Innovation - Tūmanako will be a place of knowledge production
