Grafton has a long tradition of celebrating town and country milestones! We are looking forward to celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on Saturday, June 27th with a "Happy Birthday!" Parade followed by a Birthday Bash at the Ballfield! This photo is from Grafton Old Home Days in 1941. Cecil Wallingford Fisher with oxen and wagon on main street in Grafton. For the 250th three branches of the Fisher Family will be represented, descendants of Cecil and his two older brothers, Leon and Clyde.

Memorial Day 2026 Observance
Memorial Day observance in Grafton will take place on the traditional date, Saturday, May 30th. The Memorial Procession will form at 2:15 and step off from the Grafton Elementary School at 2:30 p.m., marching to the White Church for a bell toll, on to a brief service for those who died on land at the Village Cemetery, then to the Village Bridge for a brief service for those who died at sea. The procession will be followed by a Memorial Day Program on the Library Lawn. Inclement weather location is the Grafton Community Church. All interested Veterans are invited to join in the procession. Transportation is available if needed. Children and teens are invited to carry and and place wreaths on Veteran Graves, toss flower tributes in the river for those who died at sea, recite poems and sing as part of our observance.
We welcome and highly encourage community members to help us create wreaths for veteran graves at 1:00 on Friday, May 29th at the Grafton HIstorical Society. We can easily show you how this is done and would really appreciate your support. A wreath making group is a long time town tradition that has waned in recent years. Many hands make light work.
Questions? Contact [email protected] or 802-843-2217 with any questions.
The Grafton Historical Society invites all for refreshments following the program.

Grafton Cornet Band leaving the Memorial Day Cemetery Service in May of 1936! They still play for us every year. Join us on May 30th at 2:30 for Grafton's Memorial Day Observation (sticking with the traditional date still after all these years!)
The original date for the first official Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day was May 30, 1868, changing to the last Monday in May in 1971. Can anyone identify any of these band members?
