Pius XII Council 4925 Knights of Columbus We are part of the largest Catholic men’s fraternal organization on earth – 1.8 million strong. What do we do? We purchase over 1000 of these
each year.

Our Council serves many of the parishs in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh. We support the Pro-Life cause in all its stages,
from conception to natural death. Our largest effort is through Project
Rosebud which joins with Birthright of Pittsburgh and the East
Suburban Infant Jesus Respect Life Committee (RLC) to provide
material and emotional support to financially abandoned, abortionminded
mothe

rs-to-be. This support begins one month before the
expected delivery date, and ends when the child is one year old. In
addition to home visits by Knights, their spouses and RLC members, we
raise money to purchase needed furniture, clothes, and baby supplies. From 2008 through the present, we have assisted fourteen moms. We support Religious Vocations by providing a monthly stipend to
local seminarians to assist them with expenses. We collect thousands of dollars each year for the K of C Bishop’s
Project, which is used to help children or adults with mental, physical,
or developmental problems in the St. Anthony School Program and at
the McGuire Memorial Home. You’ll see us at shopping centers passing
out Tootsie Rolls for donations, at Masses collecting ”pennies”, and
selling Christmas seals to raise funds for this charity. At Christmas time each year we purchase and deliver baskets of food to
needy families in our parish and adjoining ones. We provide free educational and religious booklets on the Faith that you
see in the vestibule of the church. We provide stimulus funds to help local parishes for costly projects. Recently we provided funds for half the cost of new the St. Bernadette
sound system. We have also assisted other local parishes with funds to
assist with needed repairs or facility improvements.

“Since you, Lord GOD, are truly God and your words are truth and you have made this generous promise to your servant, do, then, bless the house of your servant, that it may be in your presence forever—since you, Lord GOD, have promised, and by your blessing the house of your servant shall be blessed forever.” 2 Samuel 7:28-29

David is asking for God’s blessing ion his house. Little did he know that God had plans for the House of David. From that house would come the Messiah who would save all people. You should realize that this blessing took about a thousand years to be fulfilled. God works on His own time. Waith patiently for God to fulfill His promises.

And now I commend you to God and to that gracious word of his that can build you up and give you the inheritance among all who are consecrated. Acts 20:32

Paul is leaving Miletus and is saying goodbye to that community. This is close to the end of that address. Commending someone to God and to His gracious Word is a great blessing. We need to study God’s Word. But more importantly, we need to make it part of our daily lives. It needs to be our guide. What use is knowledge of Scripture if you do nothing with it?

Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil. 2 Corinthians 5:9–10

We strive to please God in all that we do. We are liable for our actions and our choices But, because of the Blood of Jesus, we are forgiven. We will be judged. Thanks be to God that His mercy has paid the price as long as we have accepted that gift in faith.

Do not speak evil of one another, brothers. Whoever speaks evil of a brother or judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law. If you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save or to destroy. Who then are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:11–12

We are told over and over not to judge others. Yet we persist in it. Do we understand the situation of that person? Are we really qualified to apply God’s law to someone else? Maybe we need to tend to our own issues and et God handle those of others. Go is merciful and we have shown over and over that we are not nearly as merciful and forgiving. Let God be God and stop trying to take His place.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Matthew 5:6

What is hungering for righteousness? Is it wishing those who do wrong are punished? Or is it asking that all people are treated with dignity and respect and have their basic needs addressed. Later in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus did not say, “I was sinning and you condemned me.” He said, “I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink” and so on. That is righteousness in the eyes of the Lord.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

We are all tempted. The devil knows our every weakness. We cannot resist on our own. Only through the grace of God can we resist those allures. Jesus was also tested. But He never sinned. Temptation is not sin but it can lead to sin easily. We must always be on our guard against the lures of the deceiver.

So, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him, rooted in him and built upon him and established in the faith as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6–7

This is actually an admonishment to remain faithful to the Gospel as it was preached to the Colossians and not entertain the false teachings of others. You can only do that by knowing more about what the Gospel teaches. Bible studies are good ways to do that but the leader must be well versed in the Scriptures so as not to lead others astray. Find groups that will allow you to grow in your understanding of the faith so that you are not misled by false teachings.

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. John 6:47

What Jesus refers to is that He came down from Heaven. But what sparked the question was His claim to be the Bread that came down from Heaven. The very next line is “I AM the bread of life.” So believing that Jesus came down from Heaven must be followed by believing that He is the Bread of Life. That whole path leads to the statement that the Eucharist is the True Presence, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. You cannot truly have the former without the latter.
