Story shared with us from adoptive mom Patricia Rice-
I wanted to share with my Facebook friends that we lost our little Sophie. She had had a small stroke in early January and was expected to make a full recovery, but declined rapidly in the early morning hours of 22 January, and slipped away peacefully in our arms at our vet's office that morning.
Sophie came to us in October of 2016 through the Maryland Westie rescue organization. She had been a victim of severe neglect. She had lost most of her hair, had ear and eye infections, hookworms, open sores on her skin, and had lost half her body weight at 11 pounds. We were concerned about taking in an older dog with such serious health problems, but one look at that hopeful little face, and we were hooked. In short order she had put on pounds and body muscle, grew in fluffy white fur, and became the indomitable mistress of our household. Everything revolved around our little darling. We puffed her up on yummy duck breast, controlled her environmental allergies with an excellent immunotherapy plan, and Sophie rapidly accumulated a fancy wardrobe of coats and jackets to keep the cold at bay and convey her fashion sense. She loved walks in her stroller, snuggles, yum yums, and talking smack to all the dogs of whom she did not approve. With those black button eyes, pricked white ears, and jaunty disposition, she charmed just about everybody (except foxes). She was sixteen years old, and until the very last weeks, a curious, playful, s***ky, and boisterous girl. We will love you forever, Sophie.
