Happy heavenly birthday to Jeannie Tangye.

Missing all my FOMS friends today as we would normally be setting up the room at the Queens Hotel now ready for our AGM. So many happy memories of past Memorial Weekends, some sad memories of friends who are sadly no longer with us but mostly feelings of gratitude for all the wonderful times and friends that the Society brought me over the years.

If any of you has memories you would like to share on here, or photos of previous get togethers, please feel free to post them. Sadly most of my pics are locked away on an external hard drive which won't let me in!

Standout memories for me are 2011 when we launched The Friends of Minack Revisited; the lovely cake which Jeannie's hairdresser's daughter made for us; the lovely cake we had to celebrate both Derek and Jeannie's 100th birthdays; the seemingly never ending raffles which sometimes went on almost as long as the AGM itself;, having to wave our arms in the air rather than applauding John one year when Patricia's dog (think it was Monty) got upset at the sudden noise and barked furiously!

Other memories of the sea putting on its own show behind us, sometimes calm and sparkling in the sunshine, other times flinging huge waves up and over the Prom! Hard to keep people's attention in the room when Mother Nature decided to come out to play.

On this Memorial Weekend please do all share some of your FOMS memories too, and photos if you have them.

Remembering as always on 19 December those 8 brave lifeboat crew of the Solomon Browne who paid the ultimate sacrifice when trying to rescue the crew and passengers on the Union Star in horrendous conditions on the cliffs below Dorminack.

I shall never forget standing in the old lifeboat house at Penlee Point listening to Martin Brockman talking about the events of that night when his father, Nigel, was one of the crew who did not return. One of our most memorable FOMS Monday activities, it was fitting that our final Monday activity this year was to visit the new station at Newlyn and be given a guided tour of both the new facilities and the Ivan Ellen ALB by current coxswain, Patch Harvey and mechanic, Tony Rendle.

Mousehole turns their Christmas lights off tonight as a mark of respect and mine will be turned off too, with candles lit in memory of those brave men.

Hello and welcome to former members of the Friends of Minack Society. Although FOMS has now been dissolved Gloria Townsin and I were saying the other day that we miss being able to connect with our former members at Christmas time so I thought I would create this page so that anyone who fancies keeping in touch can do so. This does not mean that FOMS is re-forming, this page is purely for folk who miss the chat and contact of our old page.

I have sent invitations to the FOMS contacts on my personal FB friends list but others are welcome to join in.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a healthy and trouble free 2024. To those who have lost loved ones or have family or friends in hospital or suffering ill health, I wish you comfort and better times ahead.

Kath Mulligan
