💙 Honoring Our Fallen Heroes 💙

Every year, around 135 law enforcement officers across the U.S. lose their lives in the line of duty. That’s one “Officer down” call every 54 hours—a sobering reminder of the risks our heroes face to protect our communities.

At Band of Blue, we honor these true blue heroes by standing with the families they leave behind. We promise them this: You are not alone. You will always be a cherished part of our law enforcement family.

Their sacrifice is never forgotten—and neither are their loved ones.

🍩 National Donut Day has us thinking… cops and donuts? Classic.

But families of fallen officers deserve a sweet moment too.

So today, we’re raising a glazed (or jelly-filled) donut in honor of the brave officers we’ve lost—and the strong families who carry on their legacy.

💙 Support. Community. Sprinkles.

It’s what we’re all about.

Heat stress and heat stroke are very real risks, especially for officers working outdoors during the summer. A Kevlar vest and duty belt can hold in heat and be very uncomfortable, especially in high humidity. While we can't do anything about the temperature outside, we can offer some tips to keep cool. Check out our tips at: https://bandofblue.org/tips-for-keeping-cool-in-the-summer/.

🏍️💙 We’re proud to share that Dustyn Monismith is riding in the 2026 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge in support of Band of Blue and officer su***de awareness.

Hoka Hey is a 10,000-mile endurance ride inspired by the warrior spirit of the Lakota people and rooted in a mission to raise awareness and support for meaningful social causes. More than a ride, it is a true test of physical, mental, and emotional strength.

Dustyn is once again taking on this incredible challenge to help support the families of fallen law enforcement officers—and to shine a light on the importance of mental wellness within the law enforcement community.

🚔 Honoring Our Heroes 🕯️

Each May, the Kenosha community gathers at the Kenosha Public Safety Monument on Antonio Pingitore Way for the annual Kenosha Law Enforcement Memorial Service—a solemn tribute to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

This ceremony honors local heroes, including:
👮 Jacob Keul (1922)
👮 James C. Rieschl (1961)
👮 Donald Murphy (1953)
👮 Gary W. Fraid (1973)
👮 Blanco Aquino (1991)
👮 Dreux Beaulier (2004)
👮 Frank Fabiano Jr. (2007)

In 2025 alone, 111 law enforcement officers and 23 K9 officers across the U.S. made the ultimate sacrifice—a 25% decrease from 2024. We remember them. We honor them. We carry their legacy forward.

This meaningful service brings together officers, elected officials, community leaders, and residents to stand united in remembrance.

Three years ago, Band of Blue was honored to work with the family of Lt. Adam Gustafson sending them to Hawaii, which was originally an anniversary trip that Adam and his wife Amber planned to do together.

Lieutenant Adam Gustafson of West Fargo, ND, suffered a fatal heart attack after attending the department's outdoor range. He was a U.S. Army combat veteran and had served with the West Fargo Police Department for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

The month of May is a special one for the field of law enforcement. Not only is it Mental Health Awareness Month, but May 10 – 16 is Police Week, a time dedicated to honoring the memory of the law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The officers who protect us must also be protected against incapacitating mental and emotional health problems, as well as against the hazards of their job.
