BAYELSA STATE POLICE COMMAND

PRESS STATEMENT

POLICE COMMENCE INVESTIGATION INTO DEATH OF ODUTUA PATRICK PERESUODEI

The attention of the Bayelsa State Police Command has been drawn to viral videos circulating on social media platforms concerning the alleged murder of Odutua Patrick Peresuodei M aged 24 years, of Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. The development has generated widespread public interest and mixed reactions across the State.

In view of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor psc, IICFIP, foosi has directed a full-scale investigation with a view to unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice is served.

Preliminary investigation reveal that on 15th January, 2026, at about 1800 hours, one Bodmas Prince Kemepade 'M' of ICHC Centre, Tenacious Street, Edepie, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, allegedly arrested and brought one Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah 'M', aged 24 years and Peresuodei Destiny ''M", aged 22 years, both of Amassoma Community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, at their residence.The alleged suspects were brought in company of his security details personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over an alleged threat to life post on Facebook.

Upon their arrival at the Station, bruises were reportedly seen on the bodies of the suspects by the Police. However, due to the seriousness of the allegation, investigation commenced immediately. Statements were obtained from the suspects, but Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah (M) now deceased was observed not to be coherent in his statement and was taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and treatment. At the hospital, the attending doctor advised that the suspect be released to his relatives for proper medical attention.

Subsequently, the suspects were released to a family member one Charles Edure .

However, about two weeks after their release, reports surfaced on social media alleging that Peresuodei Ondutimi Abbah, who was released earlier, died on 30th January, 2026.The Command should not be dragged into this allegation of murder on social media platforms. However ,the Command has since lunched a manhunt on Bodmas and his cohorts.

The Bayelsa State Police Command appeals to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of hindering investigations or inflaming public tension. Individuals with useful and credible information are encouraged to cooperate with the Police to aid the ongoing investigation.
The Command reiterates its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the rule of law, and assures the public that further developments will be communicated as investigations progresses.

How Tompolo Boy Bodmas Kemepadei Allegedly Killed a Young Man from Amassoma, Bayelsa Over an Online Dispute

A violent confrontation that began as an online argument in Bayelsa State, has left a young man dead and his community demanding urgent action from security agencies.

According to family members and local youth leaders, Patrick Peresuodei was allegedly abducted from his family home after a Facebook dispute with fellow Bayelsa who is a boy to Tompolo, Bodmas Kemepadei. Witnesses say Kemepadei, accompanied by a group described by locals as armed assailants, forcibly removed Peresuodei, subjected him to a severe beating that reportedly broke multiple bones and left him unconscious, and then abandoned him at the family residence.

Peresuodei was transported to hospitals in Yenagoa, but relatives say he was turned away because doctors deemed his injuries beyond the capacity of those facilities. He was subsequently referred to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), where he slipped into coma and later died, according to hospital sources and family statements.

Community members say Peresuodei’s body now lies in the morgue while outrage spreads through Amassoma. Youth leaders have publicly condemned the attack and allege that Kemepadei is free and boastful despite the severity of the alleged crime, citing money and connections as reasons he has not been detained.

“We demand justice for Patrick,” said a spokesperson for the Amassoma youths. “We call on the Bayelsa State government, the Department of State Services, the state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to immediately arrest and charge Bodmas Kemepadei and any accomplices involved in this brutal killing.”

As of this report, there has been no official statement from the Bayelsa State Police Command or the DSS confirming arrests or detailing an investigation. Local authorities have not publicly disputed the timeline provided by the family, but sources say investigators are expected to visit Amassoma and review medical and eyewitness evidence.

The case highlights growing concerns over violent escalation from online conflicts into physical attacks in the Niger Delta region. Human rights advocates and community leaders in Bayelsa are urging transparent, swift action to ensure accountability and to deter similar acts of vigilantism.

Family members and community activists are calling for a thorough forensic and criminal investigation, prosecution of those responsible, and measures to protect residents from retaliatory violence while the probe continues.

So, we the delegates of PAp are calling on all relevant authorities and stakeholder should please call Chief Dr Dannis Otuaro, to order before it get out of hand, we are running out of patience.
