Some of our local MaineMTA teachers are participating in this event! Come on by!

Students, whose teachers are members of MaineMTA, are invited perform works that feature an American composer, to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of our country’s founding. Everyone who wishes may jump on board with this theme! Students are also invited to say something about the composer and his/her music.

Please contact Coordinator Patricia Stowell if interested, [email protected] by April 20, 2026 or earlier.

Here is some info:

Songs From Here is a Maine-based initiative known for collaborating with local poets and composers to create unique, locally-focused, and interdisciplinary performances, often incorporating poetry readings between musical selections.

Our program includes folk-song arrangements from Michael Atkinson and Neil Pearlman, melodies by composer John Newell that celebrate some of Maine’s creatures, songs by emerging young composers, and more. Jeri Theriault will be sharing some of her poetry in this performance, too. Join Songs From Here for an afternoon of homegrown poetry and song!

We had our Piano Monster Festival this past Saturday and what a great time we had! We got to celebrate Music Teachers National Association 150 year anniversary with a bang! Over a hundred students from multiple studios in Maine all coming together to perform piano 4 had, 6 hand, and 2 piano 8 hand pieces. This was no easy task!

Our thanks and praise go to the Orion Performance Center, our board and volunteers who helped shape it to be such an amazing day, and of course our 3 guest conductors! None of this would have been possible without you!

It helped keep the spirit of piano collaboration alive and well! Can’t wait for another round soon!

A message from the current MaineMTA president:

I am thrilled to share that our wonderful association has been selected by the MTNA Board of Directors as the 2026 State Affiliate of the Year.

In the words of Brian Shepard, “this selection recognizes the significant accomplishments and important work of the Maine Music Teachers Association for its state and local members, for MTNA, and for the music teaching profession.”

The award will be presented by MTNA President Kevin Chance during the Annual Business Meeting at the MTNA National Conference in Chicago, Illinois. The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. in Chicago Ballroom E at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.

This has been a truly banner year for our association—our 50th anniversary and now our first-ever State Affiliate of the Year award. This recognition reflects many years of hard work, dedication, innovation, passion, and leadership that have brought MaineMTA to where it is today. Thank you, members, for valuing MaineMTA and the work we do. Thank you to all the teachers who have devoted their time and energy to organizing and running the events we’ve held over the years. And thank you to our MaineMTA leadership—the presidents and board members who have given so much of themselves to help this association be the best it can be.

I’ll say it again: if you’ve had even an inkling of wanting to attend the conference, this is the year! Receiving this award during MTNA’s 150th anniversary celebration is a special moment you won’t want to miss.

With much appreciation,

Amy

We are happy to share that by including our fundraiser in the Piano Monster Festival registration, we have almost reached our goal of 50 donations in celebration of our 50th Anniversary. So far, we have raised $1,316!

Please share! We are excited to be so close to our goals for this fundraiser! The fundraiser will continue through the end of the year, so there’s still time to reach our final six donations. If you haven’t yet shared the fundraiser with your studio, DM us or comment here and we can send over an email template.

Keep up the 50 for 50 donations!
