Corporations aren’t people, so why do they have the freedom to spend unlimited cash in our politics? Some folks are trying a new tactic: redefine corporations.

In the last 5 years, at least 80% of Wisconsin school districts have been forced to hold referendums to fund basic expenses due to insufficient funding from the state legislature.

This week, Gov. Tony Evers and Republican legislative leaders announced a compromise package that includes tax relief and roughly $600 million in additional K–12 school funding. We’re glad to see our lawmakers having real conversations about how to support our students, and any additional investment in WI public schools is a positive step – but the school funding formula is broken, and one-time or limited funds are not a substitute for a sustainable, equitable funding system.

We’re proud to support a landmark lawsuit to demand the legislature address the school funding crisis. Join our effort to advocate for fully funded public schools 📚 www.FundWIPublicSchools.org/join

Hold your applause on that budget deal.

Giving you $300 might buy a couple tanks of gas, but it keeps our schools running on empty.

The devil is in the details and the details are not good - putting in more "aid," but not letting districts spend more money means none of those dollars get to kids. And the increase to special education funding is good (great even!), but because it isn't sum sufficient it's not guaranteed.

This deal won't close our gaps, and it won't decrease the need to go to referenda to fund our schools. It squanderers our surplus without meeting our needs.

This is election year theater.
What we need is less acting, real action.

There's time to make this deal better. Let's fix this for Wisconsin kids.

Tell lawmakers: lose the gimmicks & giveaways and use the money Wisconsin has now to meet the needs Wisconsin kids have now.
