At a recent meeting of the West Wichita Optimist Club member Ron Helton (right) introduced guest Joe Stumpe (left). Joe is the editor and publisher of The Active Age which serves senior residents of Sedgwick, Butler, and Harvey counties. There are about 54,000 direct-mailed subscribers each month and another 3,000 copies are distributed to senior centers, libraries, and newspaper racks. The paper focuses on interesting activities done by seniors and on events they can attend. It operates as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

The Olathe Noon Optimist Club is 80 years old this month and continues to serve the needs of Olathe youth. At this week’s meeting members celebrated the milestone with cake, games, and special gifts. Their local winners might qualify for the Regional Competition hosted by the Kansas City Royals. Last year two youngsters from Great Bend went on to win their division in Kansas City.

Topeka Optimist Club members recently visited the Kansas State Historical Society Archives. Their tour guides explained how to request archived information and described some of the items in storage. The group then toured behind the scenes seeing areas such as the video archives, the photo lab, the microfilm room, and the stacks where government records are stored.
