Today, we were proud to celebrate a $268,400 Grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation supporting expanded rural and remote outreach services at Halton Women’s Place.
This funding is helping strengthen access to critical supports for women and families across North Halton through expanded outreach and the growth of our Georgetown satellite office.

We’re often taught to think of sexual assault as something that happens between strangers.

But most of the time, it isn’t.

It’s someone known.
Someone trusted.
Sometimes, someone in a relationship.

Which is why these conversations matter.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available 24/7.

A safe space can change everything.

Through our Shelter Her campaign, The Shorey List Family has helped create a private bedroom at Halton Women’s Place—offering a place where healing can begin.
This is more than just a room.

It’s a place to rest without fear. A place to begin again.
Designed to feel warm, welcoming, and safe, this space supports a woman and her children as they rebuild their lives after experiencing intimate partner violence—offering comfort, dignity, and the foundation for a new chapter.

“Our family has always been a supporter of Halton Women’s Place… It’s about making them feel at home and safe, and that is something we were happy to sponsor and promote.”

Their sponsored room features a personalized plaque in recognition of their support—a lasting reflection of their commitment to women and children in our community.

We’re continuing to grow our Shelter Her community. If you or your organization are interested in sponsoring a space and creating impact like this, learn more at haltonwomensplace.com/shelter-her.

One safe night. One brave step. One empowered future at a time.

Thank you, Shorey List Family, for helping to Shelter Her. 💜

Some things stay with us forever.

The people who made us feel safe.
The kindness we were shown.
The moments that reminded us we mattered.

At Halton Women’s Place, we see every day how support and compassion can shape a woman’s future long after she leaves our doors.

During Leave a Legacy Month, we’re reflecting on the lasting impact kindness can have across generations.

By including Halton Women’s Place in your will or estate plans, you can help ensure women and children continue to find safety, support and hope for years to come.

Because the legacy we leave behind isn’t only measured in what we give, but in the lives we help change. 💜

Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we stand against hate, discrimination and violence in all its forms.

In Canada, le***an and bisexual women are at least two times more likely to experience intimate partner violence than heterosexual women, and 60% of trans women have experienced intimate partner violence.

Fear of not being believed, barriers to affirming support, discrimination and social isolation can all make it harder for survivors to seek safety and help.

At Halton Women’s Place, we are committed to creating inclusive, affirming spaces where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and compassion. As a organization, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe being fully themselves.

💜 If you or someone you know needs support, our services are available 24/7.

For many survivors, intimate partner violence was never just about physical violence.

It was the constant monitoring.
The fear of saying the wrong thing.
The financial control.
The isolation from friends and family.
The feeling of walking on eggshells in your own home.

For decades, survivors and anti-violence organizations have tried to explain that abuse is often a pattern of coercion and control that slowly strips away safety, autonomy and freedom.

Today, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized that reality in law.

In a landmark decision, the Court recognized intimate partner violence as its own legal basis for damages in civil court — acknowledging that abuse can include coercive control, intimidation, emotional abuse, financial abuse and isolation, not only physical violence.

This decision is an important step toward recognizing the full realities of relationship abuse and may provide survivors with another avenue to seek accountability and justice.

Today matters because survivors deserve to have their experiences understood for what they are.

If you need support, Halton Women’s Place is here 24/7.
