We'll be joining our North American Baptists friends as they journey through this Lenten season. We'd love for you to join us!

Philippians 2:5–11 is one of the oldest pieces of poetry written specifically for the Christian Church. It speaks of Jesus’s divinity, but rather than simply framing it through the lens of his kingship over all creation, it paints a picture of the Son of God as a humble servant – a servant king. This poem isn’t just important for our Christology – how we understand the person, nature, and role of Jesus – it’s important for how we live our day-to-day lives. After all, in verse 5 Paul reminds us that this servanthood of Jesus is the exact same attitude we should have in our interactions with others and how we engage with the world around us, shaping what kinds of people we are to be.

Over the seven weeks of Lent, February 19 through April 4, join the entire North American Baptist Conference as we look at these seven verses, reflecting on and praying over each in turn as we prepare our hearts for Good Friday and the celebration of Easter Sunday. One of the gifts of being part of the NAB family is realizing we’re not doing this alone. On January 26, we have a rare opportunity to gather with other NorCal NAB churches for a relaxed, relational evening focused on what God is doing beyond our local contexts.

We’ll hear from Joel David and Shan Reed, who will help us better understand the current landscape of NAB international missions and how local churches can meaningfully engage. Just as importantly, we’ll have time to connect with one another as NorCal churches who care deeply about God’s mission in the world.

If you’ve ever felt curious about global missions, unsure where to start, or simply eager to reconnect with the wider NAB family, we’d love to see you there.

NorCal churches of the NAB are cordially invited to attend the first-ever International Mission Pop-Up.

Experience an evening of engaging conversation and connections around international missions. Hear from Joel David, the NAB VP of International Missions, and Shan Reed, NAB mobilization director and former NAB missionary to Japan.

It can be easy for our churches to feel isolated or like what we do doesn’t seem to make any kind of global impact, particularly when it comes to the Kingdom efforts regarding international missions.

This Pop-Up will help your church grasp the larger picture of NAB International Missions, help connect you with other local NAB churches who share a similar interest in missions, and hopefully promote awareness of and engagement with NAB International Missions and missionaries.

This pop-event will take place 6:30–8:00 p.m. on January 26 at First Baptist Church in Lodi, California. Refreshments will be served.

Let us know you're coming by visiting nabconference.org/events and clicking on the Pop-Up Event.

The Beet just dropped!

This month, we’re recapping our Prodigal Hope retreat in Tahoe, sharing a story about the incredible work happening on Central Street with our One-Eighty Programs residents, and more!

Give it a read and stay connected to all the good happening in our region!

I want to take a moment to look back with gratitude on our retreat in Tahoe last month. What a gift it was to be together. Our theme, Prodigal Hope: The Subversive Pursuit of Hope in a Cynical World, gave us space to slow down and, in a relaxed and reflective way, consider how we might push back ...

This month, Pastor Tony Campos sat down with Kent Carlson for a powerful conversation on immigration, hospitality, and what it means to truly welcome others in Jesus’ name.

It’s honest. It’s hopeful. And it’s worth your time.

In this month’s edition of The Beet, we’re celebrating two ordinations, welcoming a brand new baby to the NorCal NAB family, and featuring a powerful video interview with Pastor Tony Campos on immigration, hospitality, and hope. You’ll also find an inside look at Casa de Luz Stockton with Pastor Rommel Ticas.

There’s a lot packed into this one and we hope it encourages you as you read!

I want to shout out a big thank-you to NorCal churches and pastors for your enthusiastic response to the NorCal Retreat, October 3–5, 2025, at the breathtakingly beautiful Zephyr Point Christian Conference Center at Lake Tahoe. We had a wonderful time at Quail Lakes Baptist Church in Stockton. Quail Lakes dedicated a portion of their service to recognize the ordination of Robin Gordon, Associate Pastor of Adult Ministries. Congratulations Robin! And we honor Quail Lakes for their commitment to building up and training leaders. We had a great time as well hanging out with McKenna Kenoyer,
Director of Middle School Ministries and Communication.

The 2025 NorCal NAB Retreat is happening October 3–5 at Zephyr Point—and we’d love for you to join us. This weekend is a chance to step away from the busyness of ministry and be renewed in God’s presence alongside others who get it.

In the video above, Tony, Augusto, and Kent share why they’re excited and why this time together matters.

If you’re planning to come but haven’t registered yet, now’s the time. We’ll be releasing unused rooms after July 3rd, and once they’re gone, we can’t guarantee space will still be available.

Make time to rest, reconnect, and be refreshed. We’d love to see you there.
