TN Popular Vote TN POPULAR VOTE: Every voter counts, every election This is not only allowed under the U.S. Constitution – it is specifically prescribed.

Unfortunately, the winner doesn't always win when it comes to electing the President of our United States - and that's not the Tennessee way or the American way. Under the Electoral College system we use today, a candidate who loses the popular vote can still be declared the winner. It’s happened four times before – and we have come close to choosing a president who loses the popular vote many oth

er times. Under the current system, we all know we are taking the ongoing risk of electing a president who loses the popular vote. But we are also living with the ongoing reality that many of our votes don’t matter because candidates only pay attention to a handful of “swing states.”

The National Popular Vote bill is a real chance for real reform. Under our proposal, the states are agreeing to award their electoral votes to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes nationwide. Once states representing 270 electoral votes have adopted our legislation we will have a national popular vote. The Constitution gives states the specific power to choose how to award their electoral votes. Already – six states have come on board. Help us persuade the rest to be a part of the National Popular Vote agreement – so we can make sure the winner actually wins and every vote counts. Support the winner: National Popular Vote. It’s the American way – everyone’s vote is equal and the candidate who gets the most votes wins, period.
