Flower City Outreach’s theme for 2026 is “Rise Up and Build” stemming from the book of Nehemiah.

“And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, ‘Let us rise up and build.’ So they strengthened their hands for the good work.” (Nehemiah 2:18)

These words contain an inspiring call to action to restore our community in our day and age, too. We do this through Flower City Work Camp, Weekend Edition, and Link Youth Mentorship. Youthworkers, Pastors & Teen Evangelists ... greetings in the name of Jesus:-) Flower City Outreach is partnering with Cody Spencer in preparations for our Rochester Citywide Outreach 2026. “RCO26” is an evangelistic outreach event scheduled for the last Friday and Saturday evening of April (pending venue confirmation). We are deliberately placing it a few weeks after FCWC in order to give our campers a practical way to reach their friends once camp is over. Do you remember our last night of FCWC when approximately 400 of our youth raised their shoes in the air as a sign that they wanted to use their beautiful feet to share the love of Jesus with our community? “And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” (Romans 10:15) Well, this will be a great opportunity to equip and send out our youth to invite 1-5 not-yet-Christian friends to hear some powerful testimonies and a very clear gospel message about Jesus. We are hosting a RCO26 Vision Casting meeting at Bethel Christian Fellowship’s “Link” Building (on Anson Place sidestreet off East Ave.) from 1:30-2:30PM, Monday, August 11. Cody will share about his faith journey, ministry background, sense of calling to the Rochester area, review of RCO25 results, and plans for Rochester Citywide Outreach 2026. Please note that this meeting is designed to be a fact finding meeting. Your attendance does not obligate you to continue you on. Cody has been in ministry at His Tabernacle Family Church in Horseheads, NY for the last 14 years. He is currently serving as the Executive Pastor after leading the youth ministry for 12 years. He also launched Uproar Conference which is a free annual conference that has seen thousands of students experience Jesus, find purpose, encounter the power of God and never be the same. Cody is married to his beautiful wife, Mindy, and they have three children. “Be Like Jerry” … Hey Flower City Outreach community … meet Jerry (left side, Director Gary Passero center & Leadership Team Member John right). Jerry is NINETY years old and doesn’t let common excuses keep him sitting on the sidelines when there is so much of God’s good work yet to be done in our community:-) In addition to Flower City Work Camp, Jerry serves in a program called “Weekend Edition” helping homeowners in our community with ONE day work projects throughout the year. Beyond fixing things, these projects provide an opportunity to build relationships with our resident neighbors. Currently, we have a queue of approximately 20 homeowners who would be extremely grateful for a single day of your loving help, usually only 4-6 hours on a Saturday. You would be amazed at what a well led small group can accomplish in just a few hours focusing on high priority home needs. Workcrews could be church small groups, youth groups, men’s groups, women’s groups, families, and assorted individuals matched with others. Flower City Outreach will be co-sponsoring the Rochester area Global Leadership Summit at Roberts Wesleyan University on August 7-8. Flower City Work Camp is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2025. Let that sink in...40 years of service so that the city might see Jesus! In recognition of this milestone, they are holding a fundraising campaign challenging supporters to each donate $40 to highlight the 40 years. Check out the campaign and consider joining a team as they compete to hit the goal (and there is a dollar-for-dollar match in play up to $10,000!).

As a pastor, I’ve been encouraged to see our church teens giving up their school break to serve those in need through Flower City Work Camp. As a father, I’ve been glad that my own teens have been able to grow in their walks with Christ and in their connections to the broader Christian community through serving there as well. The next area of ministry we are exploring is helping to form partnerships between local churches and city schools. The goal is for the church to support the educational experience by supporting the needs of students, parents and teachers to greater success.
