Cultural Bridges, Bigger Than Ever! 🇺🇸🇭🇰🇰🇪

This year's AFS student visit to Kenya just got bigger welcoming students from the US and Hong Kong for an unforgettable cultural immersion!

For 3 days, our foreign students didn't just visit Maasai homes they lived the experience:
🏡 Homestays with Maasai families
📜 Learning about rites of passage & traditions
🌿 Discovering the wisdom of traditional herbs & medicine
💃 Dressed in traditional Maasai attire and dancing alongside their hosts!

This is what cultural exchange should look like not observing from a distance, but stepping into another way of life with open hearts and open minds.

Huge thanks to the Maasai families who opened their homes and shared their heritage so generously.

Yesterday, we kicked off something powerful at the Kitengela Conservation Area.

In partnership with JRS Biodiversity Foundation, EarthAcre, and the National Museums of Kenya, community members gathered for a hands-on biodiversity training learning to document and monitor the wildlife right on their doorstep using citizen science tools.

From plants 🌱 to birds 🦅 to mammals 🐾 participants are now equipped to record, collect, and contribute biodiversity data that feeds directly into national and global databases like GBIF.

This is what community-led conservation looks like.

Celebrating World Biodiversity Day.

Today, as we marked the World Biodiversity Day, we celebrated the incredible variety of life that sustains our planet from wildlife and forests to grasslands, wetlands, and the countless species that call them home.

At The Wildlife Foundation, we joined the global community in raising awareness about the importance of conserving biodiversity and protecting ecosystems for future generations.

Through sharing biodiversity stories, showcasing wildlife and habitat conservation efforts, and encouraging environmental stewardship, we reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding nature.

A Proud Moment at Naretunoi Conservancy

Lease holders gathered today at Naretunoi Conservancy to receive their cheque payments a powerful reminder that conservation works best when communities benefit directly.

Through these payments, we continue to strengthen the link between wildlife conservation and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that both people and nature thrive together within the Athi-Kapiti ecosystem.

On 29th April, we had the privilege of hosting the BIOFIN team at Naretunoi Conservancy for an insightful and engaging visit.
The team explored our conservation landscape, interacted with the community, and gained firsthand experience of the ongoing efforts to protect biodiversity while promoting sustainable livelihoods. Discussions centered around innovative financing for conservation, community involvement, and strengthening resilience within the Athi-Kapiti ecosystem.
This visit marks an important step in building partnerships that support long-term conservation impact. Together, we continue to champion a future where nature and people thrive side by side.
