American Legion Post 89 Private Benjamin J. Hofstetter, Company “H”, 308th US Infantry, 77th Division, was killed in action; Oct 8th, 1918.

Benjamin John Hofstetter was born in Dalton, Ohio, March 23rd, 1896. He was the son of Peter and Katherine Hofstetter. The family moved to Hayden, Colorado where he grew up in a house on Poplar Street. He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. On about October 2nd to 7th, the 650 men of the lost battalion held on against determined German attacks, suffering 450 casualties before they were finally relieved by the advancing 77th Division.
