On June 10, 2026, CIVITAS Cameroon, represented by Fri Asanga, facilitated a session on "Understanding Fundamental Concepts and Tenets of Peace and Peacebuilding" during the 11th edition of the REPAIR Training Program.

The session examined key concepts of peace and peacebuilding, including the distinction between positive and negative peace, the pillars of peaceful societies, and practical approaches to addressing the root causes of conflict and strengthening social cohesion.

Organized by NEWSETA with support from NED, the REPAIR Program brought together 40 emerging youth leaders from across Cameroon under the theme "Youth Participation in Peacebuilding."

CIVITAS Cameroon is proud to contribute to initiatives that equip young leaders with the knowledge and skills to advance peace, democratic participation, and inclusive development in their communities.

✨ Women’s Sports Leadership, Advocacy, and Impact ✨
We are proud to highlight the remarkable participation and powerful intervention of our national coordinator, Nsen Abeng Esq. at the Global Women Emancipation in Sports (GWES) General Assembly, held on April 4th, 2026, at the National Museum in Yaoundé.
Invited as a distinguished partner and observer, her presence , her voice, expertise, and unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality/equity and women’s empowerment through sports.
🎤 Women possess inherent power and abilities, despite funding limitations. She highlighted:
The critical role of networking and resilience in gaining greater access to resources and partnerships, thereby strengthening the impact of networks such as GWES in the promotion and protection of humans rights of women and girls in sports.
The need for access to state infrastructure to ensure that women’s participation in sports is effectively mainstreamed in Cameroon
The importance of multi-stakeholder responsibility and collaboration to ensure proper implementation and the integration of gender considerations in all aspects of sports based on inclusion and intersectionality.
She stressed that today, it is no longer about numbers, but about efficiency and effectiveness.
She also applauded the leadership and efficiency of Mrs. Fomum Victorine noting that without her fervent commitment, progress for women in sports would be significantly limited.
💬 “You have to grasp power. You have to position yourself in such a way that when you speak about women in sport, your voice is amplified,” she said to participants.
She further highlighted that women in sports are also affected by femicide, calling on women and girls to unite their voices to say no to femicide, to understand their role, take their place in society, and resist patriarchy and chauvinism.
Her contribution added depth and strategic insight to discussions focused on strengthening the role of women and girls in sports as a powerful tool for empowerment, inclusion, and sustainable development.
👏 We celebrate our national coordinator for her leadership and dedication to advancing the rights and voices of women and girls everywhere.

The proliferation of small arms and light weapons continues to threaten peace and security across Central Africa. Rising cases of armed robbery, violent attacks, and gender-based violence involving weapons are a reminder that urgent and coordinated action is needed.

Honored to have participated in the 2-day National Consultation in Yaoundé on the development of Cameroon’s National Action Plan on the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons. The consultation brought together key stakeholders to strengthen arms control mechanisms, improve regional cooperation, and contribute to a coordinated governance blueprint across five ECCAS member states.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of mainstreaming gender in peace and security processes in line with UN Resolution 1325, SDG 5, and SDG 16.4.

Together, we continue working towards a safer, more peaceful, and inclusive Cameroon and Central Africa.

CIVITAS Cameroon today effectively contributed to the Development of a blueprint for SAWL governance in Central Africa: integrating national action plans and targets for coordinated implementation across five ECA member states.
DAY 2
While each country has developed National Action Plans (NAPs) aligned with the Kinshasa Convention, the UN Programme of Action (UN PoA), and the International Tracing Instrument (ITI), there is no unified regional framework to guide coordinated implementation. This gap undermines cross-border cooperation, monitoring, and accountability. The development of a strategic blueprint that harmonizes existing NAPs and national targets across five ECCAS states. The blueprint will serve as a reference document and roadmap for coordinated SALW governance, aligned with UNSCAR’s mandate to support the implementation of the Kinshasa Convention, promote transparency, and strengthen national capacities.
The causal pathway begins with a comprehensive desk review of existing NAPs and legal frameworks to identify gaps and opportunities for alignment. This evidence base informs the design of inclusive national consultations, which bring together government focal points, civil society, youth, and technical partners to co-develop revised national targets. These consultations foster ownership, legitimacy, and gender-responsive approaches to SALW governance. The insights gathered feed into the drafting of a regional blueprint that harmonizes strategic pillars and indicators across the five states. A validation workshop enables cross-border dialogue and collective endorsement of the blueprint, reinforcing regional accountability and cooperation. The blueprint serves as both a reference document and a roadmap for coordinated implementation, reporting, and monitoring. By integrating youth and gender perspectives, the project ensures that SALW governance is inclusive and responsive to community realities.
Project Owner: Republic of Cameroon
Implementing Partner: Cameroon Youths and Students Forum for Peace (CAMYOSFOP)

- Review Cameroon’s existing SALW framework and targets.
- Contribute to the drafting of a unified regional blueprint aligned with the Kinshasa Convention, UN PoA, and ITI.
- Strengthen national ownership, transparency, and cross-border cooperation in arms control.
