NAF Member Highlight

For nearly 28 years, Red River Women's Clinic (RRWC) has been providing compassionate, expert reproductive health care. Their 2022 move from Fargo, ND, to Moorhead, MN was more than just a relocation; it was a promise to keep showing up for patients in Minnesota, North Dakota, and beyond.

Beyond abortion care, they also provide:
Birth control and emergency contraception
STI testing
Pregnancy tests
Miscarriage management

While appointments are required, there is no mandated waiting period for abortion care in Minnesota. RRWC accepts private insurance and Minnesota Medicaid, with self-pay options also available. Abortion is essential to Black maternal care.

Every year, we celebrate – a week of awareness, healing, and celebration started by to call for protections for Black mamas and families.

Black patients face disproportionately higher rates of maternal mortality and are more likely to experience complications during pregnancy. Access to abortion is a critical part of maternal care and allows people to make decisions that protect their health, their futures, and their families.

The theme for - “Rooted in Justice & Joy” - calls for a liberated future where Black families can truly thrive. That future must include access to abortion.

April is .

Survivors deserve safe access to abortion care. Many survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault have shared with National Abortion Federation (NAF) that abortion has been a lifeline that makes escape possible.

Abortion is health care. Full stop.

commemorates the founding of the World Health Organization 78 years ago. And in those 78 years, their position has remained the same: abortion is safe, and more so when patients have access to proper care.

Banning abortion doesn’t stop them from happening. If we want to keep abortion safe, we must ensure that everybody in every state has access to safe, affordable abortion care.

As we mark the end of Women’s History Month, we will continue to honor the countless women, including patients, advocates, providers and clinic staff who are fighting to ensure that everyone can access abortion care without disruption. We’re proud to support providers on the front lines of this fight.

Kansas just passed two dangerous anti-abortion bills.

The first bill, HB 2727, makes it easier for people to sue abortion providers who “violated their right to informed consent about an abortion.” The other proposal, HB 2729, requires the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to create a standardized consent form with medically unnecessary and potentially inaccurate information.

Let’s call it what it is: fear-mongering. Despite Kansas voters clearly stating that abortion access is important to them, legislators want to scare abortion providers out of practicing and scare patients out of choosing abortion. We must continue to protect providers and patients against harmful policies that were made only to appease anti-abortione politicians.

Abortion providers should not have to fear for their safety and their lives just for doing their jobs.

Last week, reports surfaced of a plan to murder a Montana abortion provider – a plan that was nearly carried out. The suspect found the provider’s home address and went to her residence with a gun before ultimately deciding against violence and turning himself in.

While we are grateful for the safety of this provider, this incident points to a broader and profoundly disturbing pattern of threats against abortion providers. At NAF, we are continuing to track these threats and support our providers with the security resources and training they need to continue caring for their communities.

Abortion providers are essential health care professionals. We must protect them and ensure there is clear accountability for those who threaten or commit violence against them.
