Vacancy for a Manager Part-time

The task of managing 10 units would be well beyond what can be expected of a volunteer non-executive and as a result MCLT will be appointing a property manager. While there will no doubt be periods of limited activity on the management front, there will be periods when there will be a lot to do, and the manager will have to respond to emergency calls from the tenants. The main tasks of the manager can be seen on the Work with us page on our website www.midhurstclt.org. If you are interested or know anyone who might like to discuss the position, please contact us.

This is a huge increase in our ability to provide affordable homes for the area and builds on the two houses we already have successfully let in Midhurst. We look forward to hearing from all those interested either in becoming a tenant or working with us.

Do you need affordable housing?

Big boost for affordable homes in the Midhurst area

We are pleased to announce that we are in the final stages of purchasing 6 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom apartments in Easebourne to make available to local residents.

The Trust will rent the apartments at 70% of the relevant market rate. It is expected that the first apartments will be ready at the end of the year. They are designed to support working families and individuals from the area and are also available to key workers, essential for health services and the economy.

Commenting of the new homes, Adrian Moore, the Trust’s chairman said, “We are really grateful to both Chichester District Council and the South Downs National Park Authority, for their exceptional help, plus the kind support of two local charities, in enabling us to buy these new houses. They will make a difference, in an area of high rents, in providing rented accommodation for those who want to live and work in the Midhurst area.”

The Trust is inviting supporters to become more involved with the Trust and others and those interested in the work of the Trust to become supporters.

Anyone interested in applying for an apartment or is interested in knowing more about becoming a supporter of the Trust should contact the Trust via www.midhurstclt.org. We will shortly be inviting potential tenants to apply and if you are a registered supporter, you will receive prior notification of this.

£300,000 to help the town recover from the Angel Fire

Chichester District Council has set aside £300,000 to help Midhurst businesses to recover following the fire at the Angel Inn hotel and neighbouring buildings.
The money will be used in a variety of ways to help the town get back on its feet and encourage residents and visitors to support local businesses in Midhurst.
£200,000 of the funding will be used to create a business grant scheme, which is currently being developed, and a further £10,000 has been allocated to provide training support.
£50,000 will be allocated to support promotion by business groups in the town, including funding any future parking incentives. In addition to this, £10,900 has already been handed over to the Town Team for promotional and marketing purposes.
The remaining funding will be used to deliver a large event in the town later in the year, along with funding towards increased marketing and promotion of the town.
A member of the council’s Economic Development team has also been seconded to support businesses in the town for the next two months and the team has set up a business recovery group involving local businesses from the towThe council’s revenue team has also been offering advice to those businesses who pay business rates. The majority of businesses in Midhurst do not pay business rates due to their size and because they receive small business rate relief. However, the council has been in touch with those who do, to make sure that they are aware of all available support to them. Chichester District Council is also continuing to offer free parking in its Midhurst car parks until the end of 16 April 2023 and is urging residents and visitors to show their support for the town.
All of the agencies involved in the recovery process are committed to doing everything they can to get the road reopened to vehicles as soon as possible and helping Midhurst to recover from this dreadful incident. Regular updates are being issued and these can be found at

Midhurst CLT Spring Update
Dear Supporters,
SDNP has given a green light for affordable homes, as part of a new
development, in Bepton Lane, Midhurst
Sorry for the radio silence but we want to only email you when we have news
to share.
At last, out of the various projects we’ve been following up on since we wrote
to you last, a number of new developments now have or are progressing
towards planning permission. The one that we are now in initial discussions on

is the former Brickworks, the old West Sussex County Council Depot site in
Bepton Road Midhurst, where the SDNP has given Metis Homes planning
consent for 69 houses, including affordable homes.
Artist impression of the new affordable flats at the Brickworks site

The site will include a block of 12 affordable rented flats (6 single and 6 x 2 bed) and we have requested that Metis Homes allows us to assess the viability of Midhurst Community
Land Trust to buy them for the local community.

These projects only come about through the support and commitment that the
South Downs National Park Authority and Chichester District Council to help us
obtain these key assets for the benefit of Midhurst. Indeed, our properties in
Lamberts Lane, built by Metis, only came about through the strong support we
had from both SNDP and CDC.

A further set of applications, that also contain affordable homes, from by Metis
Homes are being reviewed by SDNP on April 13th so we have a lot of work in
hand to ensure that we can acquire affordable homes, in perpetuity to our
local residents. Metis Homes Managing Director Adam O’Brien said in a recent
meeting we had with him, “We are keen to continue to deliver more affordable
homes for the CLT following the success of the first units we built for you at
Lamberts Lane”.
We plan to hold a Town Hall Meeting sometime in the Autumn when we
should have some more specific information and timings. In the meantime, we
appreciate your continued support.
If you would like to know more about Midhurst CLT and register as a
supporter, please visit www.midhurstclt.org
Kind regards the MidhurstCLT Team.

MCLT Funding access given big boost
The Midhurst Community Land Trust (MCLT) has been awarded Charitable
Status by the Charities Commission.
A major benefit to the Trust is that we are now eigibile to bid for grant funding
from certain funders who only provide grants to charitable organisations.
The need for affordable homes to rent in the area is ever increasing and we
have several potential projects under discussion and this grant funding access
will make a big difference in their viability.
What will also help is that Charitable status means that the group does not have to
pay income tax on any profits it makes, nor does it have to pay Land Tax or Stamp
Duty.
As the Charities Commission state in our successful application. “Charities have
a special place in our society because they are committed to helping others.
This creates a level of trust from the public that we must protect.”
