Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation

Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation As a US-based non-profit organization, HRF is dedicated to supporting the success and sustainability of rehabilitation in Haiti.

We support Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy education in Haiti, primarily by providing logistical and financial support to Faculté des Sciences de Réhabilitation de Léogâne (FSRL), an OT/PT program in Haiti. PURPOSE STATEMENT - WHY we exist
The Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation (HRF) was founded to address the lack of adequate rehabilitation services in Haiti by creating a sustainable, Hai

tian-led solution. In response to the critical shortage of trained rehabilitation professionals, HRF established Faculté des Sciences de Réhabilitation de Léogâne (FSRL)—Haiti’s first academic program for occupational and physical therapy. Our purpose is to empower rehabilitation professionals in Haiti with the education, resources, and professional development needed to provide high-quality rehabilitation services. CORE VALUES
▪ Empowerment: Equipping Haitian professionals to lead, innovate, and transform rehabilitation services - ensuring Haitian sovereignty in advancing healthcare solutions.
▪ Sustainability: Committing to long-term, Haitian-led solutions that foster growth and maximize
utilization of Haitian workforce and resources.
▪ Collaboration: Partnering with Haitian organizations, educators, and global supporters to advance rehabilitation while respecting Haiti’s leadership and self-determination.
▪ Cultural Respect: Respecting Haiti’s dignity and unique identity by promoting culturally relevant
rehabilitation education and practices that reflect Haitian values and priorities. VISION STATEMENT - WHAT we envision
(Guided by our Purpose and Core Values)
We envision a Haiti where every person has access to high-quality, culturally relevant rehabilitation, revention, and wellness services — delivered by skilled Haitian professionals — empowering Haitians to live with dignity, independence, purpose, and meaning.

▪ FSRL thrives as a Haitian-led academic center of excellence, training generations of rehabilitation professionals to lead Haiti’s rehabilitation movement.
▪ Haitian rehabilitation professionals are fully integrated into Haiti’s healthcare system, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and earning widespread recognition for their expertise.
▪ Haiti stands as a global model for rehabilitation education and practice. MISSION STATEMENT - HOW we achieve our vision
(Directed by our Vision)
HRF is committed to sustaining high-quality education and training of rehabilitation professionals in Haiti through financial, logistical/operational, and strategic support. We fulfill our mission by:
▪ Strengthening FSRL as a Haitian-led center of excellence in rehabilitation education.
▪ Supporting the professional development of FSRL graduates and other Haitian rehabilitation
professionals.
▪ Engaging volunteers, building partnerships, acquiring resources and expertise, and sharing the work of HRF globally.
▪ Collaborating with Haitian professional associations and organizations to promote rehabilitation education, practice, advocacy, and policy. Through these efforts, Haitian rehabilitation professionals will be equipped to lead, innovate, and deliver culturally relevant rehabilitation services in Haiti — reducing disability-related barriers and transforming lives.

Celebrating Haitian Mothers Day 🇭🇹❤️

Today, we honor the strength, resilience, and unwavering love of Haitian mothers. Across Haiti, mothers are often the foundation of their families and communities—nurturing children, overcoming challenges, and inspiring hope for the future.

Through the support of the Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation, Faculté Des Sciences De Réhabilitation De Léogâne UNEPH is helping educate the next generation of rehabilitation professionals who are improving the lives of children and adults throughout Haiti. Behind many of these future clinicians is a mother whose encouragement, sacrifice, and love made their journey possible.

On this Haitian Mother’s Day, we celebrate all mothers—and especially the mothers of FSRL students, graduates, faculty, and staff—whose strength continues to build a healthier and more hopeful Haiti.

Bonne Fête des Mères! Happy Mother’s Day! 🌺

Stanley Charles represents the next generation of Haitian rehabilitation leaders. A recent graduate of the Faculté Des Sciences De Réhabilitation De Léogâne UNEPH, he now serves as a teaching assistant while also practicing at Centre Universitaire Tèt Ansanm de l'hopital Sainte Croix - CUTA — FSRL rehabilitation clinic — where supervised students provide therapy services to patients in the community.

Originally considering a career in medicine or nursing, Stanley discovered his calling after observing physical and occupational therapists working with stroke survivors. He saw how rehabilitation restores dignity, independence, and hope, and knew this was how he wanted to serve Haiti.

For his thesis research, Stanley studied the impact of knee osteoarthritis on the daily lives of Haitian adults, contributing valuable insight into a condition that affects mobility and economic opportunity. He hopes to pursue a Master’s degree in Orthopedics to further strengthen rehabilitation education and clinical care in Haiti. Just one week after presenting his research, Stanley welcomed a daughter into the world. His wife, also an FSRL student, will soon graduate with her occupational therapy degree. Together they represent a powerful future for rehabilitation leadership in Haiti.

Stanley is deeply grateful for the support of Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation and is excited about the transition to FSRL’s future permanent campus. He remains committed to a vision where all Haitians have access to high-quality rehabilitation services.

Visiting clinicians save lives. But they can't build a profession.

For decades, rehabilitation care in Haiti has depended on rotating international teams of volunteers. When they leave, the capacity leaves with them.

A country with over two million people living with disabilities needs more than relief cycles. It needs local occupational and physical therapists trained in their own language, within their own healthcare system, building something permanent.

That's the work we do at Haiti Rehabilitation Foundation.
