Congratulations to our 2024 LRCF Grant Winners!

1. $1,000.00 - Little River Community Library – New Books
This grant will help purchase books for patrons from birth through adult in a variety of genres that meet patron requests. Over the years, there has been a large increase in patron requests for large print books and newly released series. They are actively trying to support these requests with the most current reading materials and new releases as they become available.

2. $5,000.00 – Sandstone Heights Nursing Home – Maxicare Bariatric Full Body Portable Lift
This lift is used on residents that aren't able to transfer independently or with a sit-to-stand lift and need a lift to hold their entire body weight safely. In addition to assisting our residents, it would be extremely valuable to our staff as it reduces the physical demand on our staff's bodies and reduces the risk of injury. With this Full Body lift, it also is a bariatric lift with means, it can transfer a resident up to 800 pounds, while still able to move the lift with the resident freely and comfortably.

3. $5,055.00 - Little River Chamber of Commerce – Alber Park Mural
A mural can have a significant impact on a small community in various ways. This mural will show local culture, history, and traditions. It will serve as a visual storyteller, preserving and celebrating Little River’s unique identity. It will transform a blank unattractive space into a vibrant and aesthetically pleasing area. Our hope is to attract tourists and visitors to our community all while creating something that will be loved by the locals.

4. $5,745.73 – Little River Development Group – Gaga Pit
This grant is for material and installation of a gaga pit to be placed in the Little River City Park. This would include a 20-foot circular pit wall and a flooring kit that is designed for the gaga pit. Through research we have found that gaga ball is a fast-growing sport that the youth enjoy. This is evident when we communicate with the Windom Elementary staff. The gaga pits are one of the most used equipment at the school.

5. $2,500.00 – Windom Elementary/PAWS – Vinyl Wrap Front Entrance
This will add perforated vinyl wrap to the front windows and doors at the Windom Elementary entrance. The wrap will be custom designed to add some color as well as signage to our building. This perforated vinyl will help drastically with temperature control in the foyer area. It will also allow people to see out of the windows but not allow people from the outside to see in the building, helping to add some extra security to the school.

6. $1,224.26 – LR Fire Dept – 2 Fire Nozzles
These 2 fire nozzles will replace outdated deteriorating ones. Having equipment in good working order makes our job safer and more efficient. There are many important components in the fire service, but fire nozzles would be at the top of the list. Fire nozzles are used to extinguish fires but are also used to protect firefighters in very high heat conditions and are also used to disperse and control hazardous materials. This project will help keep the community safer by putting out a fire quicker which would lessen the damage to their home, business or vehicle.

7. $10.000 – City of Little River – Sidewalks
Many existing public sidewalks are cracked and dangerously uneven due to settling and tree roots. Because maintaining sidewalks is the responsibility of the homeowner, we would like to help homeowners and improve the public sidewalks by paying for the materials (concrete) for such work. We also want to be able to assist in creating new sidewalks for the appeal of Little River as a buyer’s choice for new construction.
The city will reimburse the applicant $2.00 per square foot of concrete for approved projects. Please contact City Hall if you are interested in using this grant program.
