Rutherglen Landcare Group The Rutherglen Landcare group aims to help landholders, of all shapes and sizes, care for our land.

We want to protect and improve our local reserves, our farms, and our backyards, to care for our native environment and ourselves. Our group aims to help local landholders care for their land. We want to see productive farms and healthy soils, in a truly Australian landscape of iconic gums and ecosystems supporting native wildlife in the long term. As a group, we support the environment through:

Community education by engaging expert speakers, holding workshops and farm walks.
• Providing subsidized native plants, fox baits and occasionally w**d control for our members.
• Obtaining funds for specific environmental works highlighted by members.
• Organizing volunteering days for w**d and pest control, revegetation planting or other environmental works.
• Wildlife and nest box monitoring. Our events are a great chance for socializing and meeting new people. Why not join our page and find out about events that may interest you, or better still join our group and be part of your local environmental movement. Some of the threatened animals and plants in our area that need everyone’s support to survive

Webinar: Exploring the Future of Sustainable Farms and Landscapes

Thursday, 11 December, 5:30pm - 7pm

Nature-based markets for carbon and biodiversity are opening opportunities for profitable and sustainable farming. But these markets are just one factor to consider when thinking about your farm’s future.

Two landcare networks have been considering their landscape futures for the Heytesbury region and Kiewa-Wodonga region. Learn how the New Future’s process has helped them explore a range of partnerships, pools of capital and local leadership to help plan and shape the future of their landscapes.

An example of the importance of w**d proper w**d control at prior to planting. Hard to see but the plants are all there, planted August.
The row in the middle was only sprayed with glyphosate knockdown, for a demo, whereas all the other rows were sprayed with Glyphosate and Simizine pre emergent.
Makes a huge difference, especially this year when sub soil moisture is so limiting.
That is why we can get away without the need to water plants. No w**d competition, so all soil moisture is available for the tree.
With climate change making the need to plant earlier (rather than in Sept as we used to) that gives a lot of time for w**d seeds to germinate, thus it is more important to use a preemergent.
