May 21 was an official Swift Watch day when the number of Chimney Swifts at a roost site was counted across Canada. Fantastic news: North Bay had one of the highest counts in the past 15 years, with 500 birds entering the chimney. These birds started arriving from their winter habitat in the Amazon on May 5, one of the earliest arrivals since 2009.

The Merlin is back and makes several attacks as the Swifts descend into the chimney on various nights.
