The big guys and gals are starting to come out and stretch their legs!

Who’s stumbled into a bear or two during their trips?

You paddle lightly through the solid glass water to minimize your presence in such untainted surroundings. Visibility is thwarted and you rely on your ears to decipher what’s around you. The whoosh of giant birdwing flaps sounds off above you. As you look up, you barely pick out an eagle soaring by, likely just there to investigate the faint sound of your canoe cutting through the water.

Cool, crisp, and foggy mornings in the Boundary Waters are something different, but special in their own way.

Looking for something to do in social isolation? Why not learn a Voyager song! This is one of our favorite canoeing tunes from the fur trade.

Northern Tier is proud to announce a new program for the 2021 season! Registration is opening this summer for our first Backcountry inflatable crews. Scouts from all across the country will get the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful back country of the Canadian Wilderness from their own personal inflatables. We are excited to keep pushing the boundaries of high adventure! We hope you have a great April 1st 😄

When you are deep in the backcountry and in need of a high-calorie snack to keep you going look no further than Hudson Bay bread! This energy snack was first introduced to the base in the '60s as "flapjacks". The bars were quickly renamed to Hudson bay bread and have been a staple of Northern Tier ever since. Many recipes for "bay bread" can be found floating around the internet but they all follow the similar theme of being a high energy bar made from sugars and oats. Currently, all of our bay bread is made locally in Ely by our friends over at Crapola! with their top quality granola but we have made it at our base in the past using a variety of different recipes. We are sharing with you one of our favorite versions for you to make on your own at home! If you make your own bay bread share it with us so we can see your marvelous creations and if you want to learn more about Hudson Bay bread and see some other versions of our recipe you can visit https://www.holry.org/HudsonBayBread to learn more!

We have more than 70 RSVP’s for tomorrow’s reunion. Should be a great time. Food will be served around one, a brief program around 2ish and we have the room until 4.

Here's a roster from early 1987. Do you remember any of these people and have you invited them to the reunion Saturday?...

Here's a roster from early 1987. Do you remember any of these people and have you invited them to the reunion Saturday? Also, we know "FA" stood for Flaming Arrow Patrol, but what was "LD"? Roster courtesy of John Green.
