“It’s my first time marching at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday, and it’s a huge honour."

Mike’s time in the Army saw him deployed to the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, and this weekend he will join thousands of fellow veterans for the annual March Past the Cenotaph.

“I’m looking forward to marching as a collective group of veterans and paying tribute to those who lost their lives and those that still struggle to lead a normal life due to their physical and mental health.”

After leaving the Armed Forces, Mike struggled with mental and physical issues as a result of his service and reached out to the Royal British Legion for support.

With our help he was able to access essential services for recovery including counselling, and has gradually rebuilt his life.

“I will be thinking of all those who made it back from various conflicts with hidden injuries, and those that felt the only way out was to take their own lives.”

Watch coverage of Remembrance Sunday live on BBC One from 10.15am.

Join us for the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance from the Royal Albert Hall on 9 November as we come together to commemorate our Armed Forces and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life.

Hosted by Adrian Lester, we’ll be joined by currently serving personnel and veterans from the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy as we pay tribute all those who selflessly put the safety and protection of others before themselves.

Plus there will be performances from military bands such as The Bands of HM Royal Marines and RAF Music, and special guests including Tom Jones, Alexandra Burke, Jake Isaac, Jack Savoretti, Samantha Barks and Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha.

📺 Watch on Saturday at 9pm on BBC One
▶️ Stream on BBC iPlayer anytime from 9pm on Saturday
