Washington Township Green Team Sustainable Energy/Green Team Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey

Creating a sustainable community will require leadership, vision, and a commitment to starting the
long-term journey toward sustainability. The Green Team will be the catalyst for creating an
understanding of what sustainability means in Washington Township. The team will also be
responsible for determining how to monitor and evaluate progress towards this goal. The Green Team will lead and coordi

nate the sustainability activities of the community. This will be
done by leveraging the skills and expertise of team members to develop plans, implement programs,
coordinate with sustainable and green efforts in other communities and assist with educational opportunities that
support the creation of a sustainable community.

Looking for a different kind of summer camp this year? Why not look into Project Pollination! A half day environmentally focused camp for students to learn more about pollinators! What a great idea!

Two Chester high schoolers are offering a summer camp for kids in grades 3-5 called 'Project Pollination' where kids can learn about and take part in the creation of a pollinator garden here in town. This project is funded by the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC). See flyer for details:

What an amazing collaboration, and a great example of what makes our township such a tight-knit community, and a wonderful place to call home!

Ed was a long time Green Team member as well, who is dearly missed by us all, and we cannot think of a more fitting way to cherish his memory than by planting lovely native Inkberry Hollies at the library!

Hats off to all that volunteered, advised, and contributed to this touching memorial tribute!

Did you know that our Green Business Recognition Program is always looking to grow, and we are constantly seeking new local businesses to showcase for their sustainability efforts here in town!

Joining the program is as easy as signing up and taking the pledge to green your business, then we work one on one to determine action categories that make sense for each individual business.

One of our first tiered businesses is the much-beloved Racks Valley Boutique! Racks is a non-profit thrift boutique that sells gently used clothing, purses, jewelry, shoes, and accessories.

They are owned and operated by volunteers from the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club. The boutique accepts clothing donations keeping these items out of the waste stream, and their pricing is unbeatable!

Sales proceeds are generously donated back into the community and help support our schools, the food pantry, emergency services, local families in need and much more!

Looking for some summer outfits at a discount, or perhaps a lovely dress for prom season? Look no further than Racks and know that you're shopping locally and sustainably! Visit their website at https://lvjuniors.org/racks/ or follow them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/RacksThriftBoutique/ to learn more!

The Green Team was once again happy to do our part picking up trash the past week for spring clean communities!

All together our members logged nineteen hours, cleaning up seven township streets including Califon Rd, Camp Washington, West Springtown, Upper Reservoir, Drakestown, Barstan, Markham Drive.

The team removed a total of twelve bags of litter and seven bags of recycling, finding the usual bottles, cans, construction debris, Styrofoam, terra cotta planters, and other odds and ends!

Thanks to everyone else that joined us to make our community a cleaner and greener place to live and to our amazing DPW for helping organize the biannual event!
