UPDATE FROM SOMERSHAM SCOUTS TRUSTEES
As many of you will know, our Scout Hut next to Victory Hall has been our home since 1976. Originally an RAF canteen building dating from World War II, it has seen hundreds of local children pass under its roof – not just in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, but Rainbows and Brownies too, as well as playgroups.
Unfortunately, the building has now come to the end of its life, and it is no longer economical to repair it. So it is with sadness that we must have it demolished and a new Hut built in its place. We don’t have the money to rebuild straight away; this will take months or years of fundraising effort by our committee of Trustees.
We have set up a project team to look into the various options for a new building. We will also develop a fundraising plan to raise the necessary money to rebuild. If you have any expertise on that, we would love to hear from you! We are grateful for the support that local organisations have already shown to us in this regard, and we will be following up offers in the near future.
Our regular meetings for around 70 young people continue, at the Baptist Church - huge thanks to them for hosting us.
We would like to hear from local families who have memories of the old Scout Hut and of Scouting in Somersham, especially pictures or other memorabilia. Please do get in touch with us via our page, or by email at [email protected].
The Trustees would like to thank everyone in the community of Somersham for all their support over the 54 years since we first started out. We hope to be here for local girls and boys for another 54 years or more!
