🌟 Bridging the Financial and Racial Wealth Gap: A Collaborative Effort 🌟
NAAIA Metro DC in partnership with the Washington DC Economic Planning Council ( ) hosted an event this past May at the Holland & Knight LLP rooftop. The event made it possible for us to bring together professionals from the financial services, insurance, legal and estate planning industries to address and help bridge the significant financial and racial wealth gap that persists in our community.
Why This Matters:
In Washington DC, the disparity in wealth between Black Americans and other races is stark. According to recent statistics:
• The median net worth for white households in DC is 81 times higher than that of Black households.
• 76% of white families own their homes, compared to just 46% of Black families.
• The unemployment rate for Black residents is 3 times higher than that for white residents.
These numbers highlight the urgent need for targeted financial education, resources, and support to create equitable opportunities for wealth accumulation and economic security for Black Americans.
The event was a great success and is the start of continued conversations and collaborations to come. Together, we can make a significant impact in bridging the financial and racial wealth gap in Washington DC and beyond.
📸A special shout out to our photographer Donald LeBeauf for capturing the spirit of the event in real time.
