“How do you demonstrate love when detaching ‘with love’?”

One often misunderstood principle of Al-Anon Family Groups is the idea of “detaching with love.” Some may think it means that we no longer care or are concerned about our loved ones, but to the contrary, it is the practice of emotionally separating oneself from their loved one’s behavior and problems – not the person. We find that we can have both love and compassion for them while caring for our own wellbeing and practicing self-care.

July’s Member Blog topic is, “How do you demonstrate love when detaching ‘with love’?”

If you’re new to the idea of “detaching with love,” check out the blog to get a deeper understanding of what it is and how Al-Anon members apply it to their daily lives.

If this is a principle you have applied to your life, consider sharing your experience on the blog. It’s a good way to carry the message to others who have been affected by the family disease of alcoholism.
