On Sunday, January 25, a backyard circus comes to Maple-Ash for a fun, family-friendly afternoon featuring high-flying aerial acts in an outdoor setting. This event is a neighborhood fundraiser supporting the Maple-Ash Neighborhood Association and is open to all.

Bring a chair or blanket and dress for the weather. Street parking is available nearby, and the viewing area will be outdoors on a level, grassy area. Donations gladly accepted at the event.

Merry Christmas Eve!

TONIGHT is the annual Maple–Ash luminaria lighting!

We have assigned block captains this year who will be keeping an eye on distribution, placement and lighting.

Street parking

Please park vehicles off the street so luminarias can be placed and the display is continuous.

Luminarias will not be placed where cars are parked.

Do NOT place luminarias along the Chabad at Ash & 10th or at Casey Moore’s/University Plaza.

Where luminarias go

Maple and Ash from 13th to the alleys south of Kings Liquor and Chick-fil-A

East/West streets 9th–13th, starting from the alleys west of Mill

Distribution (2:00–3:00 pm)

Boxes of luminarias will be dropped off on street corners and mid-block.

If you see a box, please help by placing luminarias:

On the curb, with the wide side of the bag facing the street

8–10 feet apart

Return empty boxes where you found them—they’ll be used for cleanup.

Lighting (starts ~4:45 pm)

Please help light the luminarias starting around 4:45 pm to finish just after sunset (approx. 5:25 pm).

You’ll need a long candle or long lighter to reach inside the bags.

Cleanup (December 25)

Please help us clean up on December 25.

The neighborhood aims to reduce waste:

Everything but the candles can be recycled.

Dump out the sand; place bags and boxes in recycling bins.

Hello Neighbors,

You are invited to Friendsgiving and Luminaria Prep

Saturday, November 22 from 4-8pm
Location: 12th Street, between the alley and Ash Avenue

Volunteers who are helping with set up: Meet at 2pm at 1104 S Ash Ave to assist with moving tables and chairs over to 12th (we will have a truck)

Please arrive at 4 o'clock to help us assemble luminaria bags. It is quick and easy and a great way to meet neighbors before Friendsgiving begins.

This is a zero waste event. We kindly ask that you bring:
A dish to share, along with serving utensils
Your own beverage
Your own plate, cup, and utensils

Additionally, elections for the Maple-Ash Neighborhood Association Council term beginning in 2026 will be held during the event. We will also provide a brief update on fundraising efforts for luminarias and share how Block Captains will be helping lead the effort this year.

The estimated cost for luminarias this year is $900. If you would like to contribute, a donation box and QR code will be available during Friendsgiving.

Zero Waste Day is THIS SATURDAY
Zero Waste Day is Saturday, July 26
7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tempe Fire Training Center
1340 E. University Drive

Accepting: Styrofoam chunks, electronics, appliances, household hazardous waste, and pet food/supplies are among the many items accepted at this event for recycling, reuse and repurposing.

Zero Waste Day is a drive-thru event free to Tempe and Guadalupe residents.
